I want to download some TV episodes, but they are in .MKV format. I am not familiar with this format.
What programs can I use to make a DVD Video out of them. I read that TMPGEnc can do it, but is that the only one and if so which version?
Also, what would the quality be after conversion? The files are pretty big at about 250 MB per 20 minute episode, so it would seem that the initial quality would be good, but I don't know how conversion will affect them.
And a last question is, would this type of file take longer to convert than an AVI or Mpeg?
Thanks for the link. So far my progress is that I have extraxted the Audio, video and Subtitles. The only problem is that the sound is in .AAC format.
I have Xilisoft audio converter, but when I try to encode to .wav the speed increases and it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks. Is there any other program that can convert it to .wav?
The .wav from ease audio converter seems to work, but TMPGEndc will take too long to encode. I would estimate that all 49 episodes will take about 6+ days to encode. Is there a program that can merge and sync the AVI with the wav? I can then make a DVD from either NVE or WinAVI.
It appears that my efforts were a success. The only problem is with the Xilisoft encoding the .wav at 2x speed. Does anyone know of any way I can fix this? Ease audio converter will encode the .AAC files, but it will only encode a total of 30 and I need to encode 49 total.
Just in case anyone is interested in how I did this, I am including what I did in this post:
First I extracted the files from within the .mkv using MKVtoolnix with mkvextractgui for easier use. I got an XviDAVI, english .AAC, japanese .AAC, and subtitle.
I then used Ease Audio converter to create a .wav file form the english .AAC.
I used TMPGEnc for mux the .AVI and .wav. I set the sound output to mp2, which reduced Encoding time by roughly 79%. The result was an Mpeg file.
Lastly, I converted the mpeg with WinAVI to get a .VOB with IFOs and BUPs (this step is very fast).
I will finish the other 48 episodes and then figure out how to make a menu with Paint Shop Pro and Cinema 4D if possible.
