no post, no beeps, no nothing. here's the story:

not too long ago, i had an HP 735n desktop computer. i upgraded this thing left and right, eventually putting in a new mobo and amd FX55. after that, i the original Asus (i believe) mobo and athlon xp 2600+ lying around. so, i took my dad's old Gateway Millenium Edition computer, and put the HP mobo/proc in it as an upgrade.

i turned it on in order reformat the hard drive and install Windows XP, but nothing ever showed up on the original gateway crt monitor or the lcd that the mobo was hooked up to before. i reseated the ram, cleared the cmos, etc. still nothing.

dead board, i figured. so, i ordered a new board from newegg. a Asrock K7S41 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813157024). i put the cpu in it, give it a coating of thermal paste and put the hsf on it. i stuck in an old 512mb stick of pc2100 ram. sticking it in the Gateway case, i plugged in the monitor, optical drive, floppy drive, and hard drive. i turn it on: the fans spin it all seems good, but nothing ever comes up on either monitor again. i'm at a loss. any ideas?

i played with the jumpers for the fsb, changing the settings from 200 to 266 to 333, but nothing happens. i'm at a total loss still. it should be at least posting...damn my luck with computers. every single one i put together has issues, no matter what i do.

i don't know what i did or how i did it, but after i cleared the cmos again it booted. wtf? well, bios, anyway. it was reading the proc as a 1900+, but changing the jumper to 266 fixed that. i'm going to put everything back together and see what i can do now. i'll report back when i can. thnx, ddp. :D

it's up and stable with XP Pro, Firefox, and a handful of other programs. the whole system only has a 10 gig hard drive, but basically it's just an internet and typing machine. in the next couple months, i'll put a burner on it and something like an 80 gig drive, but for now my dad's extremely happy with it (he's just really learning to type). it's several times faster than the last system, as well as being more fun to work with :D
