I have just bought the enterprise version of realvnc. First off...the interface totally confused me...there's like 3 options - server, user, viewer and I dont know what to install on what. For now I ran the whole package on both the computers. I would like to know if there any extra configuration that I need to work/setup in order for me to connect to a computer that is behind a firewall but in the same network . Let me tell you the whole situation:
1. I have a notebook that runs on windows xp home. It is not currently assigned to any domain but is in MSHOME workgroup. Computer 1
2. I have another notebook that runs on windows xp Pro. It is currently assigned to a domain called "ITS.XYZ.COM" Computer 2
3. My home wireless router is 2wire and both my notebooks are behind a firewall. I have, for the notebook -that is remotely controlled, configured the router settings and opened up the router port 5500 (for the real VNC application) ....besides this I noticed the following settings for the realVNC application for that computer
DEVICE ALLOWED APPLICATIONS APPLICATION TYPE PROTOCOL PORTNUMBER(S) PUBLIC IP
ballamlt2 (Windows XP Pro) Computer 1 VNC - TCP 5500 70.248.AAA.BBB
blackbox ( Windows XP Home) Computer 2 All - ALL ALL 70.248.AAA.BBB
Basically, I have put my XP home Computer(Computer1) in DMZ area(free of firewall) and my other notebook (Computer2,XP Pro) to host VNC application. Now here comes the tricky part....
Now, I try to establish a connection between the computers...here is what I did.
1. From my computer 1(XP home, the one in DMZ) I invoked VNC Viewer and created a new connection but while supplying the IP Address, I gave the one with 192.168.X.Y as against 70.248.AAA.BBB. When I try to do the same from computer2 (XP Pro, the one hosting VNC) and supply 70.248.AAA.BBB.... I am unable to create a connection. Am I missing something here?? Any suggestions please
