AC3 Sound Problems Through a Media Server

I wanted to stream full DVD quality files through my Media Server a D-Link DSM-320 Media Lounge. I am using Microsoft's Media Connect software/server as it handles files >2 GB. I have ripped, demultiplexed and multiplexed the files to a single .mpg with the AC3 soundtrack intact. However, when it streams through the server and arrives at my receiver it doesn't appear that the 5.1 surround comes through. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? The same DVD when played through my receiver decodes the 5.1 signal perfectly. Thanks for any help.
