give us a little more info. what burner(brand and model number)? what firmware? what motherboard (brand, rev., bios)? what burning program (nero, roxio, etc.). What exactly are the symptoms? When did the problems first start? You said you "tried everything"... What exactly did you try to do to fix it? If worst comes to worst, you can get a new burner for ~ $50 or less. Also, I think you might be in the wrong forum, this is for hardware other than burners.

Athlon64 San Diego core 3700+, ASUS A8N-E, Sapphire X1900XT, 320GB WD SATAII HD, 2GB Gskill mem. Win XP Pro SP2. Pioneer DVR111D. Nero 6.6.1.4, DVD decrypter 3.5.4.0. ,PS2 V7 w/no-solder and swap magic

Then there is a conflict with the driver for the rom drive. Right click the drive and select properties. There will be a option in there to unstall drive. Do that and reboot windows. When you boot back up it should automatically reinstall the driver. If there is still a prob...then take the case off and make sure the ide cable is hooked up to the back along with the power. Also...depending on the mobo and if you have a dvd rom and cd rom...make sure the cd rom is set to slave and the dvd is set to master. Make sure its set to the secondary ide on the mobo. If you only have a cd rom...set it to master on the second ide channel. Hope this helps.

I remember a while back something about a conflict between XP and Adaptec software (now Roxio) that caused the exclamation mark to show. Are you using any old Adaptec software?
