Edit out your Serial Number
Quote: Nero version: 6.3.1.4 (Nero Express)
Your version is somewhat out of date, current one is 6.6.0.16. You can get it at aD 9http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_applications/n...) or directly from Nero @ http://www.nero.com/us/nero-up.php
Quote: Burn process failed at 52x (7,800 KB/s)
I would slow this down, your computer may not be able to keep up
From he looks of it you are using files already in VCD format.
Quote: Physical memory : 1023MB (1048096kB)
Free physical memory: 661MB (677004kB)

Looks like you have tons to play with, shouldn't be a problem
Quote: Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)
Not sure, but it doesn't sound good. Creaky should know :P

let's have that latest section of your Nero log, which is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar
hopefully the other guys' suggestions will show up in that new log and we can go from there..

Hi All,
I've been having a similar problem. I haven't burnt anything to cd for a few months but I've been trying to backup some files over the past couple of days without success. Nero did work fine with my dvd writer before.
First I got a power calibration error / power consumption error. I updated the drivers for my dvd player/writer. Then I started getting the write-error. I've tried various combinations of the tick boxes, including different write speeds but still not working. I have not updated by Nero files but it still isn't working. I haven't had any problems using these cds before - burnt onto some others previously from the same batch and have tried a number of the blank cds from this batch but no luck.
Would there be the possibility that my dvd player/writer isn't working properly? It will read ok from CD and dvd though I was noticing some problems with reading dvds... it just to start it up quickly but now it has to think about it and I do have one dvd that it wont play anymore (it works ok in the dvd player connected to the tv so it isn't the dvd)
Sorry for the long post. Will post my Nero log below. Maybe it will make more sense to some of you?
Many thanks
Victoria

Thanks Creaky.
I meant to say in the previous post sorry for hijacking the thread.
Will try the stuff you've said. Fingers crossed!
What do you mean by 'better media'?
Many thanks.

OK, being abit thick ...
Have downloaded the aspi from the site you gave Creaky.
When I click on the aspiinst.exe it says
Adaptec's ASPI installer will update the ASPI layer for Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT or Windows 2000.
Er... I'm running windows xp.

that's ok, the ASPI download is for XP also....
as i say, if fixing the things i pointed out don't fix your problems, buy better quality cd's as we've tweaked all your settings once you've applied those suggestions, thus all that's left is that your burner doesn't like those discs (if you still have problems after tweaks applied)...

Will probably have to wait til the weekend to remove and reinstall Nero.
Thanks again for the help.

Hi all,
Just a brief update since yesterday!
Haven't reinstalled Nero yet but have tried a number of different bradns of cd. The ones I had been trying are verbatim. I'm still having no luck with them. I have also now tried an 'imation' but that won't burn either. Finally I've tried my old liteon RW (max write speed 12x) and although the first time I tried it it said burn completed successful, there didn't seem to be anything on the cd when I looked! Nero has let me erase the stuff that was on it from ages ago - so now there is nothing on it. (was burning at 10x in this case)
So, can erase but still can't burn.
Oh, the error varies between 'write error' and 'power calibration error'.

Quote: "9. I get a 'Power calibration error' or 'Calibration area (almost) full' error message. Why?
Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.
Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).
This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.
If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (amost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.
Please try the following solutions:
Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
Send the recorder in for service."

Yip, I've seen that FAQ.
Since I've now done the first two points on the what to do for that, it doesn't look good for my recorder! I'm working on a laptop.... *sigh* Still, I think its still under warrantry from Dell.
Will try reinstalling Nero just in case. If that doesn't work then I guess I contact Dell.
Thanks for the help though.

Thought I'd give an update, though it's not particularly helpful. I've finally decided my cd/dvd burner bit (hardware) is broken so tried ringing DELL - my laptop is not quite a year old. Couldn't get through, so I emailed them. They sent back a list of things to try like make sure you've put the cd in properly and that it has clicked in.... *grin*
Anyway, emailed back that I had already tried all their possible solutions, just to get an automated email as follows:
>>>
We have received your request for information on your Dell system.
Please note our e-mail queues are open between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm UK time.
We will respond to your communication as soon as possible and will
endeavour to reply within the next 48 hours.
In case of a delay in response we apologise as currently we are
experiencing technical difficulties due to high mail inflow.
Thank you for your co-operation.
>>>
Seemingly something has gone wrong with DELL computers in the UK, they not as good as they were (this from a computer support guy who has bought in a few hundred Dells for the office and has been having to call the dell engineer out just about everyday!). Anyway, have not as yet had any reply. Guess I will wait till next week and then try emailing again and hopefully they will just send out a new burner.
Thanks again for all the help.
