I recently received some DVD-R's from a friend, we both used the DVD Info Pro program to test the discs he burnt.
His tests had no errors but I tested all the discs and all of them had errors and I could'nt make back-ups. We have both kept screencaps for the individual discs and he used TDK branded TYG02 and Ritek GO5 media which I have never had problems with. I have tested all sorts of media in the past and have never had issues.
Is it possible that our burners are incompatable.
I have a Pioneer DVR-107 while he has an LG HL-DT-ST

It would help if you tell us what type of errors you are receiving and how you are backing up your movies.
Have you tried DVD Decrypter to back up your movies? It handles most errors fairly well. Since movies have already been compressed and burnt, then use DVD Decrypter to Read in ISO mode and then Write in ISO mode.
Fine tune DVD Decrypter settings as found in ScubaPetes "Problem DVDs" guide:; Heres site:

Forget the test results because they vary depending on the burner, test speed, etc. If you say you have read errors keeping you from copying, and he says the DVDs are error-free, then he should be able to copy all the files from the unencrypted DVD to his hard drive without a problem. If he can do that, then I'd suspect your burner may be the problem (maybe dust weakening the laser). BTW, when I say copy, I mean just dragging the entire VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to the hard drive, not using DVD Decrypter which may bypass errors.

Another strange thing is that all the discs read as 4.38 GB, but not one of the discs is this length. I have tested hundreds of discs and many after I received these, and none of them have problems

If a disc has CRC errors you have buckley's of being able to copy with that program

my usual suggestion for copying from copies is to simply copy/paste the video_ts folder to hard drive then burn in Nero, obviously you could use decrypter as a burn program or a.n.other...

Well, do you have the latest firmware update on your Pioneer dvd burner? To check on your Pioneer DVR-107, go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1754 and for your newest Pioneer DVR-110, go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2140 and get the latest firmware to update your dvd writer.
At what Mode on DVD Decrypter did you tried to rip your friends DVD-R backup? Have you tried cleaning your friends backup and retry it? Another good method to use DVD Decrypter to rip dvd movie onto the hard drive is by going to MODE, FILE F (this will most likely works for me if Mode, ISO, Read R failed).
On the other hand, have you tried to use DVD Shrink to read using Open Disc, since you don't have the files of your friends DVD-R backup on your hard drive yet?

I have also tried burning with clone, Nero and what have you. Shrink is to compress DVD9, these are DVD5 so no need to use it

You can still have DVD Shrink try to open/read the disc and set it to "no compression" at Backup with the same size as it is. It won't do any compressing if it's already on a DVD5 disc. What I meant is just try to have DVD Shrink to read and see if it works for you that's all.
By the way, did you tried to have DVD Decrypter to Mode, File F instead of doing Mode, Iso, Read R?

I've never used ISO Buster for DVD movies. However, I've used it for rebuilding PS2 games sometimes in the past though.

ISO buster is great, if a DVD can be burned, it will do the trick. Also great for finding lost data on multisession discs

you may not be a novice but sometimes it's best to step back & start at the beginning. that way the obvious things don't get missed.
so you're saying that you crc check the discs and they're full of errors yes ?
forgetting about the discs you're having trouble with for a moment, can you do a Nero simulation burn of something, anything, just to get a Nero log, i like these logs cus they are very detailed and give lots off clues re a system setup..

I have no problem burning, I have 100% success burning Princo media which most people think is crap. The problem is discs someone else has burnt on their PC. So why would I need to do a Nero simulation? Or am I missing something?

Also, how about you try one of your burners in your friend's pc.
