Hi
I have recently bought a barebones pc which is now up and running and works fine.
I left behinf and old athlon 1GB pc that kept turning itself off, after a few q&a's i discovered that it looked like the power pack that was faulty(i assume getting overheated very quickly). So i changed the power pack with a new one purchased at a local outlet,it never specified any Kw or voltage or anything, after i installed it there is no power getting to the pc at all.
Is there anything i need to know about powerpacks? and how can i tell what is required?

many thanks

are you talking about a powersupply on the back of your computer? if so, try getting one that has at least 350v, you dont want to get just a random powersupply because thats what powers up your entire system, and if it goes wrong, your mother board, your cpu, and other hard drives may be shocked and die on you right away, so next time try to buy one that has a box with it and has all your necessary components needed such as that sticker that wasnt on yours, hope this helps

Also does you MB have both the 20 pin ATX and the 4 pin header connectors, and if so does the PSU have both connectors and are they both connected.

To be honest i did flick the switch at the back and a spark flew so i may well have buggered it up there and then.
i did tell the guy in the shop what pc i was running and he just gave me a no brand powerpack and i assumed that would be the one.
But the old pack was dead but it was also 3 times heavier so that gave me my first doubt, but then again i suppose most things will get lighter with progress.
I'm not to fussed if it works again it just seems a pity that it's going to waste(i hate throwing things away)

thanks for the help fella's
