I have recently continued my life into college, but now it seems my bitcomet days are winding down. The college network has a 17000 kb/s (yes 17,000kb) download speed yet, even on a 6:1 Seed:Leecher torrent i hit 20 KB/s max.
Can someone please help me to increase these speeds, or is it maybe that the network has a fort-like firewall?
PS: At home i had a 9000 kb download speed that brought an average 160 KB while using port forwarding, so i know it is not something on my computer.
Thanks in advance.

I am having the same problem, but with emule. I connected to razorback2, stayed on all night and downloaded a total of 817 kb of music. I have read somewhere that sometimes ISPs will block cirtian ports, could this be how my college is killing Emule? I have also tried lime wire and Morpheus, and none of them work

There is a modded Azureus program out there that allows you to cheat your upload speed.
Example: Normally I can max upload at 94 KB/s. And that kills my internet.
So I set it to up at 1 KB/s and set the cheat for 94 KB/s (so I don't get caught) hehe. Now all my ratios are 1.5 or higher and I can still online game :)

No. and damn 160 KB up? what ISP were u using?
I'm on Comcast's 6MB service and 94 is the fastest I was uploading at ... as far as torrents go. I used to use bitcomet.

That's why I don't use file sharing, people pretending to be friendly and sharing, but then you get the ones who cheat you. No offense flip, keep it up, because I file share anyway.
Upload bandwidth is so terrible, ISPs need to seriously do something about it. But maybe that's their way of putting the breaks on file sharing? It's quite logical.

Anecdotal, by my definition, it's the way too many people here think. It's also all the evidence you have.

actually Reasons? I don't do it all the time. To tell you the truth I'm honest with my upload for 3/4 of the day ... from midnight (when I go to bed) to around 4 or 5PM (when I get home). I don't use the internet so those times I actually do upload @94KB/s.
It's only when I get home I cheat :) hehe .. so I can online game and browse the net without suffering from the upload.
@DVDBack23,
Alot of the download depends on where you go. I've downloaded at rates of 400-600 KB/s. On most torrents I average 200KB/s. It's sites where there are limited registered users (usually around 50,000), you have to keep a positive ratio.

Where I live we are getting ripped off, I refuse to pay anymore than I have to. I pay $30 a month for 200KB/s down and 50-100KB/s upload depending. I don't live in a big city, I live in a township just outside a decent sized city. The prices here are so bad, they even have a FTTP (Fiber) infrastructure in place (Fiber in some areas delivers 15Mbps down and 2Mbps up, for $40 a month) and they are pretending not to, seriously they tell people they only have copper lines, we're getting raped so bad, it's gouging. They just know we'd never go back to dial-up (Duh, don't even mention that word). I watched them install FTTP lines all the way to my damn house, pigs. They don't have a single competitor either.

Quote: because the max upload here is 600 KB/s
Are you sure? IMO that would be blazing fast for an upload rate :)

Well don't believe the advertised upload/download.
I have the 6MB Comcast service. Most people have the standard 4MB service. No way I get anywhere close to that. I've maxed out at just over 600 KB/s and upload is steady at only 94 KB/s

Well upload is right on at 94 KB/s. I guess it could be the torrent sites your using.

Well using private trackers, i now get over 70 KB/s for heavily seeded files, but still nothing like the 400 KB/s i get back at home for the same torrents!
As for limewire, 5 KB/s :( Oh well, OurTunes does the trick!

yea i just moved into a college dorm and i run off of their connection. my speeds are 41kb/s down and 28kb/s up. yup it sucks. I've been downloading for eight days and only 3% done. yup it sucks. And whats weird it only lets me connect to one peer/seed at a time. even with a file that has over 12,000 peers i can only connect to one
