Most common causes of this error...
--A dirty disc, or one that has fingerprints / smudges / oil / grease grim on it. Solution ... clean the disc. If you do not know how to best do this, do a search.
--A scratched disc, one that has serious scratches or mars or gouges or cracks. Solution: Set the software to ignore this serious error, hope it does not re-occur on every revolution, and realize that you will now have problems with the final result. This solution is only an option on certain software, by the way. Most rippers do not allow you the luxury of trying to ignore an error, and move on. This is because it is very "iffy" and it can cause disastrous end results, in some cases, producing coasters. It may work, with some noticable piucture freezing - stuttering - lockups, or it may cause the DVD player to just refuse to play anything past that point. Alternate solution -- replace the original disc with a new one. It may play fine, since DVD players are built to correct problems, It will not rip, since ripping software is programmed to stop and let you know of even the slightest error.
There is one other possible workaround to both of the the above causes... try a different DVD drive. I have found that some drives are much "pickier" than others, which means some will ignore a problem and play through it, while another one will stop and let you know there is a major flaw or defect or problem on the disc. I have three DVD drives on my PC right now, two burners and one DVD-Rom. I have had discs where the DVD-Rom choked, but merely swapping the disc into one or the other of my burners, and using one of those to rip the disc managed to "ignore" the dirt, or the damage.
After the above, the only other cause I have seen is NOT applicable in your case. On many of the Sony / Columbia / Tristar discs released in the last 8 months (NOT Pearl Harbor), if Sony ArCCos was used on the original disc, it can sometimes produce this error, particularly if you are using DVDShrink. This does NOT apply to you.
