i have a hp pavilion 752n computer with a asustek P4G-LA mb, 512 ram, and a 2ghz. i want to put a pair of Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series memory sticks. these sticks are ddr400 and i the ones in my computer are ddr266.

if i cannot put these in could anyone recommend some really good memory that is compatible with my setup

400MHz DDR memory (PC3200) will happily run at 266DDR (PC2100) speed.
It is obviously over-rated for MHz speed, but buying PC2700 or whatever doesn't make sense because PC3200 doesn't cost any more.
What is your 512MB - do you have one stick or 2 x 256?
If you have 1 x 512 you could simply add another stick of inexpensive generic RAM:

512Mb DDR SDRAM Ram Module, PC3200 - DDR memory for 400 FSB $59.99

If you have 2 x 256 and a third (empty) slot, you could still add the 512. It adds up to a Gig either way.
I doubt that you are running dual-channel memory mobo, so you do not need 'a pair' of Corsair - one stick will do nicely.
I would make it generic RAM though, because memory overrated for speed in this way will already support very aggressive timings at the lower (PC2100) speed.
512MB is the 'sweet spot' price-wise right now ($60 bucks Canadian :^)
256MB are $35 bucks; 1GB are $140 bucks.
But try to add to your existing! or WTF chuck 'em out and install all PC3200.
So 2 x 512MB might be the chapest way to a gig, but if you don't run dual-channel you don't really require 2 sticks.
And honestly, putting in big-$$ high speed Corsair might be a waste, in your application...
I'll bet your rig runs pretty good with 512MB. If you double that to a Gig, well that's about as fast as your PC is gonna get.

yea i have 2 slots that are occupied by 2x 256 but if i did get the corsair would it work well with my computer or will i have to change bios or other settings. i found another 512 stick and it is recommended for my computer.

Yes - if you get this you will have 1GB, it is reasonably priced.
Your rig will thank you and you will have it pretty well 'topped out'.
To remove your 512MB and install new RAM is less preferable...
Install this (or any generic 512MB that will work) and you will be happy for minimum cost - and that is half the fun, right?
