I tried burning two different .iso files on two different brands and both have had the same error I believe. The media isn't a problem because I've had successful burns with the brands before. Here is the log file I got from Nero:

Sony 08D1 is pretty good media.

Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 640c> Version: ES04 - HA 4 TA 0 - 6.6.0.15

Latest version I know of for your hp lightscribe's firmware is JS04. You can download the latest version here:

That burner is having issues with that media, firmware needs updated.

CdRomPeripheral : Generic DVD-ROM 1.0 d347prt Port 6 ID 0 DMA: Off

The dvd-rom needs to be in dma mode.Uninstall that ide/atapi controller and reboot.

Last address to be written: 2286229 (508:03.04, 4465MB)

Reduce that backup target. The current backup target is at max.By reducing it,you can keep the burn from reaching that outer edge. This area is susceptible to uneven dye.I keep mine at 4360 mbs using DVD Shrink.

That's all I can find wrong with it.There may be some other things, but sounds like the updated firmware and reduced target should help you out.

What other dvd programs are you using?

Thanks a lot! I updated the firmware and it fixed the problem. I can burn stuff fine now it seems. One question though, even though its cool now, should i still turn on dma mode?(dont know what it is)

I'm not sure about the dvd rom. The main thing is your hd and burner are in dma mode.

I you have any trouble reading a disc with that drive and burning with the HP-Very slow:go into device manager/ide-atapi controllers/uninstall-reboot that controller.Window should automatically hook it back to dma or udma when it boots back up.

Good Luck and burn on.
