I've briefly scanned through some other peoples write error problems and haven't found anything similar, so if this problem has been posted before i apologize.

I've been using Nero 6.0.0.00 for a very long time without any problems. I've probably backed up over 50 DVD's without a single nero issue. Recently i've reformated my computer and finally brang myself to download and install the SP2 update. After reinstalling nero windows said it has a known compatibility issue with 6.0. So i went to nero's site and got the latest version (Major updates 1 and 2). Then i tried to burn a DVD from the .vob files. It goes through the entire burn process untill the very end it says i get some kind of disc at once error and the burn fails. I've tried reinstalling Nero and i've tried using a different movies .vob files with the exact same results. I've made 3 coasters now and i'm completely stumped. Here's my logfile:

Ok, i updated my firmware and tried again, still no luck. As far as changing my target size, i'm assuming that your meaning the target total file size that my shrink program uses. I'm using CloneDVD2 v2.4.3.1 and there is no option to choose your target size. Nonetheless, i've been using this exact same setup (including these same TDK discs)for a while now. In fact i pretty much follow the CloneDVD2/Nero guide that's here at afterdawn. Does anyone see anything else in my logfile that could be causing this error?

in clonedvd2 after you choose what you want to do(first screen), in the second screen down by the quality bar you see dvd-5 and arrow bar, click the arrow and choose custom and set to 4300

post your last log

This was my last burn. I'm compressing a new set of .vob's right now using your instructions for a custom size using CloneDVD.

Okay, here's the latest burn.. still failed. I understand the issue with media... but there is no way that all of a sudden every burn attempt would fail. I've been using these same discs for over 50 burns and i'm assuming i can fix this problem without throwing away the remaining 40 that i still have.

- there's nothing else wrong in you log, looks like everything's been tweaked/corrected. i'm afraid 50 good burns on CMC Mags does NOT guarantee success or make them decent. they are the most foul atrocious utter rubbish dvd media you can buy. try a lower speed to use them up but even that won't guarantee success. Hence why i have stuff like this in my sig - ..Memorex/CMC - don't let them near your Burner..... - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/195438

i used literally about 500 of one type of crap media - i stuck to the same brand/media code for all those discs (Bulkpaq Orange) with zero failed burns/playback errors then got loads of problems. then i found i couldn't playback or copy previously watchable discs. crap media just isn't money well spent

Thats strange about the UDF/ISO thing, because i always choose DVD Video also. This must be the root of my problem. I'm going to try another clean install of Nero and i actually just finished installing the latest version of ClondeDVD.

Well, i uninstalled Nero 6.6 and reinstalled 6.0. I disregarded Windows' 'known compatibility issue' and tried burning like i always have and PRESTO!! it worked. Here's the logfile of the succesful burn, i'd really like to update my version of Nero so if anyone can tell me what the difference between my failed attempts and my succesfull attempts is i'd greatly appreciate it. Thx everyone.

- sigh. i've tried to help you re changing the media. this is the problem with landfill quality media, you've had 1 successful burn here and that's the point of crap media, it's inconsistent. Your success is NOT down to an outdated version of Nero.. By all means stay like this and see how far you get with those remaining discs. However as i've already stated, 50 good burns on trash media won't last, never mind playback problems down the line. Ah well, keep this thread in mind for the near future :)

@nizers,

I highly recommend you listen to Creaky, he's one of the most knowledgeable members here at AD.com -- not only that but he knows what he's talking about in regards to media and Nero. I can assure you that he'll guide/help/tweak you to the right direction. I've been here for awhile and believe me, he has been helping tons and tons and possibly hundreds of newbies to solve their misery regardless if it's Nero or media issues.

Now, do me a favor and "don't ever" get your hands on Memorex or CMC MAG products again. If you value your backup copies and want them to last then get yourself some genuine Taiyo Yuden (including Fuji & Sony "made in japan"), Verbatim (MCC003, MCC004) and Maxell "made in japan" media for your future backups. Evidently, these are top notch media and they're rank #1 in the media technology.

Good luck and happy burning..!!

First of all let me say Thank You for all of your guy's help with this problem. I do realize that there are some brands of media out there that aren't worth the time it takes to go buy them. Apparently this seems to be the case in my situation. But, like i said, i still have 40 or so of these discs and i'm not about to just chuck them out the window. I will definitly be shopping for some quality media here in the near future. Thank You.

As far as me having success again with version 6.0 i find it extremely hard to believe that it's merely a coincidence. Let's see... 50+ successful burns with 6.0, upgrade to 6.6 and have 5 failed burns in a row, roll back to 6.0 again and continue to have succesful burns, totally 10 now. Media quality aside, Nero 6.0 has a record of 60 good burns and not a single failed burn. 6.6 hasn't produced a succesful burn but has made me 5 new stylish Pepsi can place-mats... all with the same media. Now common sense tells me that there must be some sort of problem with the software.

Please don't take this as me not believing that my media is considered garbage by industry standards, but isn't it quite possible that the problem lies elsewhere in this particular case??

you're quite right, anything's possible, BUT.. Nero logs are very good at summarising a system's setup, and the very least we can do from a troubleshooting perspective, is to address ALL problems within it. ie if there are things within a logfile that aren't addressed, we can't blame the software, especially if the unaddressed items are one of THE most important aspects of burning - the media. I'm not trying to argue or drag this out, but i, and many people around here know a lot about this stuff and eat Nero logs for breakfast (i alone must see 20 or so every single day).

Version 6.x.x.x has been out for quite some time and until you rule out the media (and anything major left unaddressed in Nero logs) you cannot blame the software. Untold thousands of people use this software and we see a lot of them here, and the most common causes are DMA, outdated firmware, software conflicts, too high a burn speed, but the most critical part of the puzzle is media..

as i mentioned further up the thread -
Quote:

Since my horrendous Bulkpaq days i found out the discs were FAKEs of Taiyo Yuden media, as well as crap quality. Needless to say I no longer have burning problems (apart from the odd self-inflicted mistake) as i keep everything up to date and use only decent media, and research stuff like this most nights of the week..

Have a look at the 2 links in my signature for more info on what bad media causes. I've replied at length in this thread (not something i do too often) as every now and then someone comes along who disbelieves how important media is in the whole burning scenario (pls don't take that the wrong way)..

@creaky,

I'm not quite on par with you yet buddy. I still have a long way to go, but I guess I'm ok for now.

@nizers,

I'm 100% with creaky on this case. The real issue here is definitely the bad media aka CMC MAG. Statistically, it's either a media or firmware issue, but that's inevitable. I'm not going to argue and I'm sorry if you've had successful burned with CMC MAG and deem that it?s a "software" issue instead of the crap media. As much as I hate to mention the name Memosux, it is obvious that CMC is inferior when comparing to other media, not only that but comparing to the media technology now-a-day, and seriously that media is no good in contrast. Additionally, it won't do any good to you in the long run, especially if you value the quality and longevity of your backups. However, I respect your opinion and I clearly understand that everyone is entitled to their own judgment, so if you believe that it is "not" the media, then just go with what's floating in your boat. On the other hand, I can assure you that the majority members here at AD.com will agree that CMC MAG is a crap, and or is a poor media if not 100% but 95% most of the time.
