I recently had a windows crash (while I was on vacation, wonderful, eh?) and I stopped by a local computer tech store and asked them to look at my computer. The bad news was I would need to wipe Windows and reinstall, but the good news was they could pull my hard drive, access it by another computer, and write all the contents to a data dvd, which is what I had them do. I didn't have the computer fixed until I got back home, though, because work would pay for that part. I had put my disk in my aunt's computer while I was on vacation and viewed the files and saw everything in the proper directories, the proper sizes and dates, so just assumed they were there (which I really think they still "are" there, I just cant access them). So when I tried to copy them to my newly fixed computer, I keep getting read erros and can't access any of my files. It won't let me copy, add, move, or even OPEN anything, yet I can still see all the files, correct sizes and dates.
I contacted the computer shop I had do this and they said that it was the weirdest thing they ever heard, that the dvd they used wasn't protected in any fashion, to check and make sure I had a DVD+R (which it is, DVD+RW - as opposed to Minus), and some other things. Now they want me to send the dvd back to them so they can look at it. My problem with that is this is the only copy of any files I have (these are all important of course!) and I don't know if I'd ever see it again. They told me the used Nero to burn the dvd. So I purchased the newest full version of Nero and still can't seem to access these files. I don't really know HOW to use Nero other than the basic stuff, but have tried some of those backup options (not very successfully). I also purchased a totally seperate file-backup utility program and that got SOME of them, but not all of them. It's just so frustrating SEEING them RIGHT there, but not being able to copy them to my hard drive or opening them somehow and saving them to my computer.
Can ANYBODY help me?
