Hi, (newbie question.)

How can I find files to burn to DVD format. So far I've found .avi or xvid which are ok on CD but don't have same quality/chapters/subtitles options. What extension should I look for. I don't want to have to convert divx to dvd its kindof illogical.

you're gonna be hard pressed to find full DVDs to download. thats why most are compressed to VCD quality

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

thanks

of course dvd files would be too big. DivX is fine but sometimes the sound is not good. you'd think the image would go poor b4 the audio

yeah I've noticed that as well. people that rip the DVDs are so concerned about getting the video settings right, they often look over the audio quality during encoding. but hey, they're free so ya can't really complain lol
