Does anyone have this product? I have some questions please.
What is the difference between DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW? According to the owner's manual, I should only use DVD-R/RW. I'm not sure what the "X" means. I bought Maxell DVD-R 4.7GB/up to 8X/120min SP. Will these discs work? Is there a feature to expand the time on the DVD, or is the quality worse if the time is expanded?
I want to dub 3 VHS tapes or different shows from different VHS tapes to 1 DVD. Is that possible, and how is this done? Would I have to use DVD-RW and **NOT** DVD-R? I also see there's 2 choices called Vide Mode and VR Mode. What would I use to put several shows either from one or more VHS tapes on the DVD, the titles and chapters like a normal DVD.
The unit isnt hooked up to record TV shows because of my digital cable setup, so I use the other VCR for recording. So right now I just want to use the unit for dubbing and watching DVDs.
I want to dub VHS tapes to DVD (either one VHS tape per DVD or up to 3 VHS tapes per DVD), providing the VHS tapes don't have copyright protection. Some VHS tapes are personal (taped from TV, a wedding, etc.).
DVD- or + is like saying Beta or VHS. It's a they are both recording medias but you must use the type allowed by your device.
R or R/W: R is for recording once, R/W is for recording, erasing and using again.
X specifies the recording media you may use. The Emerson EWR20V4 was shipping units that cannot use higher than 4X. I don't know if that has changed.
You can set the DVD to record many different compressions by using the Rec Speed button on your remote. I have found using the 8 hour compression causes occasional compatibility problems with other players.
Dubbing multiple VHS to one DVD is simple. Set the mode to VHS>DVD, position the VHS to the start of video, have a DVD in the recorder, press the dub button on the set. It will stop when you run out of tape, or when you press stop on the remote. To do the subsequent tapes, simply repeat the above. You will end up with a separate file for each tape. Read the manual for the procedure for setting up menus.
Always use Video mode unless you intend to "crop" the file.
Sounds like you need some more time with the manual.
On another post you indicated that you wanted to dub VHS tape, including comercial to a DVD. I could be wrong but I don't think your Emerson will or can be adapted to overcome any copy Protection you will run into.
Hello Chuck yes you are right about the manual. It does seem a bit confusing and too honest I was taking the lazy way out. Most men dont like manuals correct?
I'll try it out - thanks Chuck for the help.
ROB.
As for protection, I think Im only dubbing VHS tapes that I recorded from TV (such as Johnny Carson tributes from NBC, etc.). I still hope that is legal though - ROB.
Does anyone know if the only way to get a software upgrade is to phone the 800 number, or is it available at a driver download website? How is this upgrade done once you receive the CD or DVD?
I bought Maxell DVD-R 4.7GB/up to max 8X/120min SP mode. Emerson said I cant use these discs until I get the upgrade. So what does "UP TO 8X" mean?
I do not know why people just take a download from the net and install it without knowing the deal.
I am not 100% sure, but the problem with that download is that there are two different upgrades for these machines. If you put the wrong one in you unit it will have problems.
FOR THE LAST TIME>>>>>
Anyone who wishes to upgrade to 8x media, stop downloading from the net and call Funai for the disc!!!
All this rah rah I hate waiting, Funai doesn't answer the phone etc. is ridiculous!
I called and got my disc within 7 business days.
See what happens when you do not just do the right thing. Your unit will go south on you! Many people who have downloaded the upgrade from whatever site has it have developed problems. Just don't download!
As for upto 8x. You will be able to use discs that are branded either 8x or discs that say 1x-8x. This is just for DVD-R discs.
The DVD-RW discs with remain 1x-2x. Use Maxell DVD-RW 2x found in Walmart. They work great.
