BitTorrent download problems

Hello,
I have some problems using Azureus. I don't know if this is the right place to ask for help, but I couldn't find another thread to post my topic in.
A few days ago I found this website (http://torrentvalley.com) and I really liked it, as it had as it had lots of files I've been looking for for a long time. he links are in BitTorrent format, so I needed to download some software in order to download - I installed Azureus.
And here came problems - when I try to download some file from there, they are in state "waiting" and this doesn't change. At first I tought this was because of the lack of users, but there are LOTS of seeders and I don't know why it doesnt download :(
If anyone can help me please post, I really like that site and I want to use it.
P.S. A friend of mine mentioned something about a firewall, but I didn't quite understand. Is it a possible problem?

You need a program like BitTornado to be able to download torrents and you need to set your PC to a static IP address. Second, you're gonna have to open the ports that the client you choose needs open to work properly, and finally if you have a router you will need forward the ports you had to open to your router.
For Static IP address: http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
Click your O/S and follow the guide
For the ports you need to open, decide on a BitTorrent Client and go here: http://www.portforward.com/cports.htm (I recommend BitTornado)
For opening and forwarding ports there is a link in my signature below, HOW TO OPEN PORTS, it should tell you everything you need to know in order to get set up.

I also use Azureus and receive DL speeds ranging from 50 - 150KB/s. I only had to forward TCP port 6881 on my router and allow it in my firewall. I've read many posts on several forums that state that you must open TCP (and UDP) ports 6881-6889. This is not true. Opening more only makes your PC more vulnerable. I have only TCP port 6881 opened on my router and ZoneAlarm Pro. I'm in the process of checking some torrents on the site you mentioned. If I have the same problem (and can offer educated advice), I'll re-post. Otherwise, the only suggestions that I have are to:
-Open TCP port 6881 in your firewall. If you have Win XP SP2, then you'll have to open it in Windows Firewall. See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308127.
-If you have a router between your PC and Cable/DSL modem, you must open TCP port 6881 on it as well. You may be able to use your mfg's documentation for assistance on this. You might also try doing a search on Open port <Modem Mfg Model Model>.

That is why there is a range recommended, you can use some or all, it's up to the user. Nothing is carved in stone when it comes to ports.

Very true, opening more ports can make your PC an easier target. This is where you have to be a smart user. For example limit the port access, only have them open when in use. It can work really well for you if you use it right and protect yourself.

I found a way to open these ports on my firewall, and now it all works great!

Does anybody know how to increase download speed if I got ISDN modem and satelite download way. Speed remains on 14kB/s no mether of my download speed wich is 385kbps (40 kB/s).

Are you sure it's 385kbps? thats 512kbps DSL speed... i don't think you can get ISDN faster than 128k

I tought that there can be some trick to get full download speed of my satelite but in BitTornado download speed is same as upload speed. Anyway thanks.

by the way you should reduce your upload speed to about 9kb/S to get a good consistent speed. i sent u a pm back mate ;)

Yes I know ISDN is 128kbps but my download connection goes by the air from satellite (SatADSL) and I can download everything with I.Explorer or Mozilla with speed of 384kbps but it's not a same story on BitTornado or any other p2p software.
