I am having trouble figuring out how to burn at 4x I use anydvd, then dvd shrink. When it is done encoding I put in my blank disc and nero automatically starts burning and it says burn process started at 12x even though I am using 8x media. Is there a way to bump it down to 4x?

Some media can burn at higher speeds. In shrink once you click back up you can set the burn speed in the 'burn settings' tab. However if using the same drive your reading the original disc from the only options will be the ones the original disc supports. Usually it will be 1x, 2x and 2.4x or max. Do you have another drive also?

Does your cd rom also read dvd's by chance? Just using the burner I don't know how to tweak the burn settings to go over what the original disc supports. You could set a higher burn speed with if you burned with decrypter though.

Darn! Well you can do the burn w/ decrypter route. Or just burn at 2.4x. Shrink will open decrypter to burn with also as long as you pick the right settings. Yes DVD rom drives are pretty cheap plus it will save some wear and try on your burner.

@jeff6898, once you are ready to encode the movie through shrink, there will be options, one will be for you to select the burn speed. I typically would set it to HD, and then burn with Nero. I know it can be set automatically to burn. I have done it both ways and with both ways I was able to set the burn speed. Matter of fact in the edit tabe, then preferences, you can select Nero to burn. Once you re-author and hit back-up there will be anaother set of pages that have tabs, go to the appropriate tab and change your speed setting. I have been using Recode 2 just to try something new...very impressed.
