Your burner is not liking this media. Have you always used this brand? The results on this media are mixed
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?selectmedia=2803#comments
Try another brand such as Verbatim, Sony, Fuji or Maxell. I have the Lite-on 1633 and have no problems with any of this media.
Also go into your Services in XP and make sure your imapi service is set to manual and not automatic.

What is the best way to free up some memory...I have 256 MB of Ram
I went through and stopped some processes...and then took out norton...and now it shows that I have about 130 MB to play with for burning...should that be enough?

@Nash77,
I looked at your log and there is not much error in there, except the few things like everyone else had suggested already i.e. update your Nero to its latest 6.6.0.16, try another top notch media such Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell. Your Lite-On seems to be right on track with the firmware. Just make sure not to multi tasking when you're burning that's basically.
Everyone in here is giving you their proficient of knowledge to help you and that is very good so far. Now getting back to your question above, there is not much you can really do here, except upgrade/get more RAM for your memory if you can. Other than that, go to START, RUN, type "msconfig" and uncheck/disable any program that you don't neccessary need in prior to do a backup, or "ctrl+alt+delete", then go to "Processes" and "disable or end process" any of your other running programs that you don't need it (NOTE: be very extra careful of what you disable though because you don't want to mess up your computer), then try to do your backup process afterward.

okay
I just tried to burn something off and Nero said that it was completed...I watched it in my DVD Player and every so often it would pause for a second and then take off again...so I tried to rip it back onto my harddrive and DVD Dectryt. was giving me read errors...before I go and buy new RAM...is it a RAM problem?...or is it a media issue?...this is the last disk that I had and then I am going to go out tomorrow and try some diffrent media...I was burning off using a 20 pack of Maxell DVD-R's that I got from Wal-mart ( I hate my small town)
I used a Ram checker and when the burn was going it showed that I had about 100 MB of Ram free durning the burn process
I have only had this burner since Feb or March I think
Thanks for the help everyone has gave me so far

sounds like we need to tweak something - post LAST section of your Nero log, which is in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar

@Nash77,
Edited..... because I'm late.
I think the media you're using is manufactured by Ritek (Maxell DVD-R "Made In Taiwan"). I have more experiences with the Maxell 8X DVD+R "M.I.J" by Hitachi, and all of my backups are flawless. I've never used Ritek or any Made In Taiwan blanks. I'm not saying that Made In Taiwan is bad, but my motto for media is mainly "Made In Japan" for Taiyo Yuden (Fuji & Sony) and Maxell, except Verbatim "Made In Taiwan" code MCC003 is top notch as well.
On the other hand, if you're thinking about getting another media, then I highly recommend genuine Taiyo Yuden (which is the DVD+R 8X Fuji & Sony "Made In Japan" is TY as well), Verbatim 8X DVD+R (MCC003) and or Maxell 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan" by Hitachi. Your Lite-On shouldn't have any problem backing up them 8X DVD+R media I mentioned above. I've had my Sony DRU710A since November 2004 and I've always backing up 8X DVD+R media flawlessly. With that being said, your Lite-On and the Sony is pretty much almost the same inside.
In regards to the more RAM you're talking about -- the more memory RAM you have the better performances your computer will perform when backing up dvd movies. Regardless if you're burning movies or surfing the net, the more RAM will be much more easier for your computer in reality. However, the choice is yours to make.

Nash,
You definitely need more RAM to better your backing up process. Again, like I said earlier, try other DVD+R good media that's all. Other than that, I don't see any issue at all.

I think you better try another media brand, if you are receiving errors from Decrypter on your burned disk. My son bought those Maxells from WalMart and he is having a problem with them and Nero. His backups are working okay on his portable player but will not work on his JVC. As far as Ram you will definitely notice the difference if you bump up to 512.
