Any chess game for the PSP that will run on psp software version 2.00?
One that is easy to set and that wont mess up with my psp software
(I am pointing at that because I saw couple of homebrew chess games that involved
uploading some eboot.pbp file -- actually the manual does even tell you clearly what to do --
and I am afraid that's too risky for my current psp software.. )

First off you can't run Homebrew (at least for now), Not with anything greater then Firmware 1.5 anyways. (e.g. 1.51, 1.52 or 2.0). So Homebrew will not be an option for you anyhow. As to when this will change, if ever!?!?!

As for Retail Games? Try contacting EA and ask 'em if they'll port 'Battle Chess' over to the PSP and then post back here, with the answer...
