I've checked several of the previous posts and I just want to make sure that I'm clear. I want to extract the files (VOB) from a previously created DVD to edit in Premiere and use only a small portion.

It sounds like DVD2AVI will do what I want. That is, will it demux the VOB file into an .avi for Video and .mp3 for Audio. Then, I can edit in Premiere, save the new .avi file for DVD building in Adobe Encore.

Is this right? Will the quality be good or close the first DVD?

Thanks,
stardanz1

Never used DVD2AVI, but have used AutoGK which leaves an excellent quality AVI. Here is a full guide if you are interested.

Hi stardanz1,

If you want just 1 portion of a movie, I used DVDShrink (Re-Author Mode) once.

Load the wanted video in DVDShrink, in Re-Author mode.

Then RIGHT-CLICK on it, if I recall, then you can select START and END point.

then it will recreate you a .VOB with just your selection.

My 2 cents...

If I use DVDShrink will the resulting edited video be in the .VOB format or can i save as an .AVI or .mpeg2?

If DVDShrink only creates another .VOB file, what programs to use to build another DVD?

Hi there,

You can load several .VOB files into DVDShrink, set the START and END frames and Re-Author, it will create a NEW dvd output, with all the portions you have selection.

If you have some .AVI or .MPG, I would convert them to DVD 1st with VSO DivcToDVD or an other converter.

My 2 cents, since I've never done it !
