I have encountered a very strange problem with some of my burnt DVDs. I burned three DVDs and mailed them to a friend of mine. He said that when he puts them into his DVD player, the screen is blank like he has inserted a blank disc. The thing is that I tested all of those DVDs on my standalone DVD player and they worked fine.
The discs are unbranded and Japanese-made. I have tried both DVD+R and DVD-R and both worked for me but neither worked for my friend. I have sent him other burnt DVDs that have worked fine in his DVD player.

Does somebody have an idea about the problem is here? I don't have the brand and model number of my friend's DVD player, but if it would be helpful to know, I can ask him for it.

use DVDIdentifier: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

download this free program and find out what the manufacturer ID is and see if your disk is a quality disk: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id... this list will tell you if you have a good disk or not.

Next thing to think about.... since your backedup DVD works for you and not your friends player is: Are the disks compatible to your friend's DVD player. You said you sent others to him but were they the same brand of disk that don't work for your friend? If you have a DVD recorder that can Book type/ bitrate your DVD+Rs, or DVD+RWs to DVD-ROMs..... this will make it more universally acceptable to other DVD players. DVDInfoPro: might help you set your DVD writer to Booktype to DVD-Rom! It worked for me ..... I also heard from others that Nero can booktype some DVD writers, too. There are plenty of other programs that can booktype, too, like DVDDecrypter! I only used DVDInfoPro so here is their free download site: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

So there ya go....... it's either your disks that are not up to snuff, and you can booktype your drive to make it more compatible for other DVD players...... and also you have to consider your friends DVD player..... it just might not work with those disks and he needs a firmware update! lots to think about!
