Having the oddest of problems, which I hope someone might be able to shed some light on!

I have an Athlon XP3000 systen, 1Gb of RAM, running Windows XP SP2, which ? against all odds ? have been working fine until last week. Now, I have two Philips DVD1640P DVD-R drives fitted, and I generally use DVD Decrypter to read in and copy out DVD images. It?s all worked fine until as of last week ? now it doesn?t matter what I do, I cannot create a DVD that doesn?t contain errors.

? Copying a CD image in and copying it out works fine in Nero, both drives.
? Copying out a DVD image and then verifying it with DVD Decrypter causes the verification to fail, varying points in the disc. Sometimes it can get as high as 80%, others it fails at 10%.
? Copying out the same DVD images with Nero causes errors when verifying. I?ve not yet had a write error, only verification errors.

Now, this would perhaps point to bad media, but I?ve now used discs from 5 separate spindles, all Ritek G05 dye, and the same discs work fine in a friend?s machine ? it just seems that anything involving DVD writing won?t work on my machine! Nothing?s been changed, nothing?s been added ? another annoying thing is that once or twice whilst copying from the DVD to the Hard Drive, I?ve ended up with a BSOD giving me ?IRQL Not Less Or Equal? messages. It?s all great fun.

Can anyone shed any light on this, please? I doubt it?s the hardware as I can?t see 2 drives failing at once, and neither can I see why it would read and verify CDs but not DVDs!
