Each time I try to find a solution as to why my downloads are so slow (less than 1 k/s) using abc, i get told to do something with my router to fix it. The problem is that because i am living in a dorm in college, i dont have a router that i can see. I just connect a cord directly from the wall to my computer. I do have a Mcafee firewall that i can turn off, but my downloads are still slow. So is there anything i can do to fix my problems? sorry if this has been asked before

ps. I can download fine using ares, but if i try to use a torrent, it wont really work even thouugh the light is green. Thanks for any help

The I.P. may be blocking the default ports. Open ABC, click Actions, then preferences. Select the networks tab, and in the minimum port and maximum port type in a different number.
Try something like 52881 and 52899. When you try and download, let it go for ten minutes and check it again. Normally when I download, its starts at 1-5 KBs but after a few minutes it goes to 100+.

Zulacin,

To be blunt, you are screwed. I myself am on a VERY fast college network, (2MB/s, 17000 mb/s) but with public trackers i was only getting 20 KB or less on torrents. The only way around this is to find a registered/private tracker and join. Then youll be lucky to get 100+ but on VERY highly seeded files you should get 60-70 KB/s which is decent.

MK,
You cant open up ports on a college network.

Try Bitlord V1.1 and port 65535

Then download one of the best torrents from http://www.bitsoup.org by best I mean most seeded

Set your max global upload to 20KB/s

Then tell me your speeds and stats make sure you read my guide that will also help you :P

I know you cant but the college might have been blocking the default ports for torrents so I told him to change them to get a little more speed
