Is There ANY Way to Playback aacPlus files in Windows Media Player? I want to play them back at my school and I don't know what codec or filter I need. Is there a way to do this?

I only see WinAmp 5 support. I read at another forum that the aacPlus files will play in WMP if the 3ivx (MPEG-4) codecs are installed but it didn't work for me (yet). I have somethings to figure out still. I don't know if the aacPlus encoder I'm using is a good one (I'm using the Enhanced AACPlus (AACPlus v2) Codec with dMC). The aacPlus files I made using it didn't play in WinAmp or QuickTime (or Windo$Media). But oddly enough the aacPlus files I made using WinAmp didn't play in QuickTime (or Window$Media) either. Although the files I encoded using WinAmp's aacPlus encoder sound amazing though WinAmp!

3ivx codec installer (freeware):

Winamp seems to have some kinks to work-out with its aacPlus support. I had to turn to VLC media player to get real results. Anyway, The dMC CLI I used to encode to aacPlus works great. I think WinDVD may be causing problems as far as aacPlus playback though WMP. Do you have WinDVD installed? Have you installed the 3ivx codec? What where your results?

After researching the answer to your question, I was lead down a road I didn't know I wanted to follow! aacPlus is an awsome codec. I type that while listing to my favorite net-radio station (Groove Salad, ambient-trance) at 48K HE-AAC. I don't mis the 128K Mp3 stream one bit! At 128K and above aacPlus supports 5.1 surround sound (they say that at 160K aacPlus rivals AC3!). I didn't like mp3Pro but I love aacPlus.

I had to use VLC to get this link to work, WinAmp wouldn't play it!

YES!!! The 3ivx codec(s) allow aacPlus files to be played through Windows Media Player! Wow, this fromat is awsonme at lower and higher bitrates! The 3ivx codec will allow you to playback aacPlus encoded files with either .mp4 or .m4a extensions.

Good luck,
Ced
