I don't mess with Quicktime much myself but from what I understand if you remove Quicktime from your PC and install Quicktime Alternative:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/QuickTime_Alternative.htm

then it has a Direct Show Filter that allows programs like TMPGEnc Plus to read it in. So you should be able to convert to mpg2 for SVCD and DVD output.

You can use the trial download for 14 days to see if it works:
http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/download/tp.html

I don't mess around with menus so for my purposes, just converting videos to watch on my stand-alone DVD player, I use TMPGEnc Plus and
output to separate .m2v and .mp2 files. I load those in DvdAuthorGUI
freeware and it spits out a VIDEO_TS folder or an .iso image ready to burn. Then I just burn with Nero.

Can't you just use Nero Vision Express? I'm currently trying to convert and burn a Quicktime file with recode. I'll let you know how it goes.

Dear rich 1282,

I don't think Nero handles quicktime (mov) files. You may convert the movs into dvd compliant format using e.g. VSO DivXtoDVD (free version), then burn with Nero.

Good luck!

The trouble with using Nero for conversions is it's difficult to know for certain what it will try to do. You have no control. For my conversions and burning I've been able to get by with a purchase of Nero Burning Rom 6 and TMPGEnc Plus. All the rest I do with freeware.
Granted my approach isn't for those creating videos with motion menus and effects etc.. but is for a casual user who wants to reformat downloads for viewing on a stand-alone DVD player.

See the threads on PAL TO NTSC and AUDIO OUT OF SYNC and you'll see various solutions how to convert from a DivX or XviD to a dvd that plays well on a stand-alone. What approach you take is up to you. But just as a reference here are the tools I use the most.

Nero Burning Rom 6603
TMPGEnc Plus
GoldWave 4.26 (shareware but registration not needed for conversions)
DGPulldown
Stoik Video Converter 1.1
DivxToDVD free version
DvdAuthorGUI
DVD Decrypter
DVD Shrink
Subtitle Workshop
Real Alternative
Quicktime Alternative

and for mounting and viewing dvd images
Daemon Tools
VLC (video lan client)

for codecs and "alternative" downloads
www.free-codecs.com

If you search the guides and articles you should be able to get from most file formats to DVD with the tools above. Some stuff that's a bit troublesome requires extra steps. For example, to handle .rm and
.rmvb files I first use Stoik Video Converter to output DivX 5.2.1
for the video and GoldWave to get .wav for the audio.

For high end tools keep your eye on posts from users like Minion who make more than casual use of video software. :)
