you do need a router or you can go to a place like starbucks which is a hot spot which means they have a wireless router there you put your settings on auto and browse away

I don't plan on buying a Router either. Unless I'm much mistaken you can simply use an 802.11x (a,b,g or n), NIC on your PC and then use ICS to create a Network Bridge between your PSP and your PC. The thing is you could only use this Connection so long as the PC was up and running. I don't know if you can program any Router with your PPPoE setitngs. So that the PC need not be up and running inorder to get the PSP on the 'Net., though. But this would in theroy would work like a NIC2NIC Connection between a PC and say a XBOX? or Network enabled PS2?...

Like I said I don't think you'd need a Router. Even if you did, you'd still need (or at least want), a Wireless Connection on your PC.

---INTERNET---> DSL / Cable MODEM---> 802.11x ROUTER--> NETWORK|___>PC_PC_Mac_PSP

So if you just get an 802.11x PCI Card (for your PC), you could eventually use Internet Connection Shareing (ICS), to connect your PSP to your PC and by proxy to the Internet, and then without having to setup an expensive Router...

first you have to go and buy a pci card and open up your computer and put it in a pci port

Or to make your life a hell of a lot easier, you can also use public access points (hot spots) which provide free high speed Internet. Example of places would be: Libraries, Airports, schools, hotels, restaurants etc...
