I have used nero 6 to create successfull copies of final fantasy tactics, breath of fire 4 and vagrant story that work on my ps2 using breaker pro to boot them. However i tried doin the same with legend of mana and it wont boot up
on my ps2 with breaker pro, but the emulator epsexe will boot it no probs
on my pc. I cnt see any reason why it will not work!!

Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers!!

Legend of Mana is one of the few mod protected games for the PSX. You need to patch the .iso version of the CDimage in order to boot it on your PS2 with Breaker Pro. You need to get an .iso verion of the game or the patch won't work. You can obtain the patch here: http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_xps.shtml#Introduction I personally have not got the patch to work as I have a .img version of the game, so make sure to post if you are able to get the patch to work, Good Luck. Correction only the NTSC Jap. version is mod protected. The U.S. NTSC version of LOM is not mod protected, so no patch is required for the U.S. release. Perhaps you got a slightly defective .iso image. I have the same problem with Legend of Mana, and will post as soon as I know how to burn it correctly or come across an image file that works properly.

Damn it man this is an annoying one. I found another image file and still have the same prob. I don't know if I got the Japanese NTSC version which is mod protected or what. When I start a new game the text is in English, so I doubt it. The US NTSC version is not mod protected, yet that is the only logical explanation. I am pretty sure that it is some form of Libcrypt (Sony's lame mod detection code-easily bypassed with a patch) because the game boot's on ePsxe and PSXeven fine. There are like 4 different patches and none of them seem to work. I am tired of wasting GD CD's on this game. I WILL find a solution and post it as soon as I do Mikeoes.

Yer i tried patching my version which was a .img file which is the u.s. NTSC 1, but i got no joy with it, the patch loaded up but then when you tried booting the game from the patch i just got a blank screen (im not sure if i patched it correctly tho) it was the paradox patch i used. But it seems strange that it works on the emulators and not on the console, especially if this version is not mod-protected!! Some one has dun it tho coz i found a thread and they had a list of succesfull psx games they had backed up,and it was in there list i messeged them but they sed it was years ago wen they did it and they cnt rememba how they did it!

To be honest Mikeoes I have put Legend of Mana on the back burner for now. I burned it patched, unpatched, tried PAL, NTSC,and off video modes. I burned it with Nero, Alcochol, and CDRWIN, at 4x with the correct settings, all to no avail. It just says booting CD... and sits there on my PS2. Each time PSXeven and Epsxe boot the CD fine and it's not listed on any list of mod protected games. The Jap-NTSC version is mod protected, but the U.S. version is not. I came across a post with the same problem (I forget where) and the solution listed there was to boot LOM on a PSone as that seemed to work fine. In that post the person could not boot LOM on a PS2 either. This pisses me off because I have booted mod protected games, PAL games, and NTSC games all with no problems. Of the 30 or so backups I have, LOM is the ONLY one which will not boot. If anybody has booted LOM succesfully on a PS2 with Breaker Pro I would appreciate it if you informed me how. Thank you.

My theory on this is as follows. All the bt files for Legend of Mana are in .img format or in other words made with clone cd. I burned LOM using Nero, Alcohol %120, and CDRWIN. Each time when I tried booting LOM it would boot on my PSX emulators, but not with Breaker Pro on my PS2. I thought about trying to find a different image file, but all the torrents are for the same .img Clone CD rip. No dice there, but I never thought about burning it with Clone CD. I deleted the image before I came up with that idea, so unfortunately I'd have to d/l it again. I will d/l it again sometime soon and try burning it with Clone CD, and post the results. Mike if you have the same .img file I had, try burning it with Clone CD and see if it boots. It's a long shot but that's the best I can do right now, Later.

Yeah I burned it with Clone CD and it didn't work. I tried Memorex CD-R's and Sony CD-R's with no luck. I burned at 4x, 16x, all with no results. Some people say Memorex CD-R's are crapola (their DVD-R's are) but they've always worked for me. The only answer left is the Clone CD rip is faulty. That was my original theory anyway. I couldn't find a another torrent for LOM other than the Clone CD rip. So in short we're SOL until somebody uploads a working image of LOM.

Well there is one way to get it work, with a modchip. I just got a Matrix Infinity 1.54 installed in my PS2 and LOM plays perfectly. This means it's incompatiblile with Breaker Pro. Oh well, Breaker Pro is still a great product. This is the ONLY game I couldn't get to boot with it.

It's easy to find. Try any bittorrent site. You would have to use a PSX emulator.

62. Q. Screw the PS2, I wanna play PSX games on my PC, where can I find emulators for that?
A. http://ngemu.com/psx/index.php These are a lot more doable IF: You find the PSX bios. For copyright purposes think Google. Then you have to have a reasonably powerful PC, let's say with around 512MB's of RAM. Then you have to configure the audio, video, and CD-ROM plug ins. These will differ greatly from game to game. Mix, match, and google are your friends once again. The two most stable PSX emulators seem to be PSXeven or ePSXe. Most games run fine depending on how much you have running in the background and your plug in configuration.

8. Q. What should I use to download PS2 games?
A. Bit torrent, P2P, IRC, or newsgroups. Bit torrent is the easiest and most common way. You need a BT client like Bit Tornado, Azureus, Bitlord, Bitcomet, Shareza, etc.

9. Q. Where can I find PS2 games to download?

Ok I have epsxe and all the necassary plugins, and i used utorrent to download a of LOM called Legend of Mana (u)[PSX](CloneCD).rar, the download was 100% complete however the file didnt change from that icon that windows uses when it doesnt recognize a file type. I know this might seem like a dumb question, but this is the first time ive downloaded a psx game, so should the file icon change? and do i need to burn the file to disc or can i open it from its location?

So any help u can give me will really be a great help?

You need to download a program called WinRAR and follow these instructions: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/207335

why can't you just extract the files in the .img file onto your computer, then make it into an .iso, and then patch that?

Because he downloaded a LOM rar file. You need to WinRAR to extract rar files. You can do that if you have an original copy or a backup copy of the game. Patching it wouldn't help. The NTSC-US version isn't modprotected, only the NTSC-J version is.

beg your pardon, i'd hate to reign in on your parade, but i think i said, why can't you extract the files from the img onto your computer, then use magic iso, to put it back together as an iso, then use the patch system. as far as downloading the game, i am pretty sure you would not find many places to get it in anything but a rar or zip file. now, my main question is where is your source of information on NTSC-us benig non mod chip copyrighted, and thhe jap version being copyrighted?

No I know the NTSC-US version is not mod protected. I'm not in the habit of passing along BS info. If you want to see for yourself: http://www.go.to/psxcplist http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_protected_games.shtml
FYI I've burned mod protected PSX games, patched PAL PSX games to NTSC, made 1 to 1 copies of PSX originals, burned NTSC-Jap games, burned PSX successful backups with Alcohol 120%, Nero, both CDR-WIN's, and Clone CD. I have a pretty good idea what I'm doing when it comes to PSX games. I've also used Breaker Pro with a flip top and a slide card, and now I have a modchip. Not to be arrogant, but you'd be hard pressed to find someone in these forums that knows more about burning PSX games than I do.

luckily for you, i can not see your face, as you might be hard pressed to hide it away... i too have used a playstation for many years bub. as well as the invention which can be used almost as easily as a vcr called a cd burner. i even found a way to make duplicates of my mothers best foods, isn't that something.

Well esentially you were telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. I don't brag, merely state facts. I wasted 20 CD-R's on LOM before I gave up on it. It doesn't work with Breaker Pro, it does work with a modchip. I have no need to brag, my rep in this forum speaks for itself.

Yeah we got off on the wrong foot. I could see how you thought I was being a braggart. That's not my style. If you have the original version and want to make it a 1 to 1 copy, it might work. If you downloaded it, the iso that was uploaded doesn't work with Breaker Pro. I tried several different torrents and all I could get was the same crappy Clone CD rip. If you have an original copy of the game, or a copy of a 1 to 1 copy, it might work. Otherwise, you're pretty much SOL.

i have downloaded many games from emuparadise.org in hopes of burning the iso's to cd's to use on my psx with breaker pro; they won't work? they are mostly in clonecd format but i do have one that is bin and cue. i have been searching the internet trying to find out how to burn them, it is out there i know it, i know there's more of a reason for downloading them then just emulating them. i have read countless possibilities, some of them made me go way out of the way, like subchannel reading, which isn't supported by all cdburners aparently... i have learned that the subchannel has everything to do with lybcrypt, the playstation protection, which is on all of the discs i assume. a few years ago clone cd was the one to use, for beginners who didn't understand cdrwin, i never have and have tried over and over to figure that damn program out, but it's got too many buttons. then clone cd started getting looked at really closely by the media protection organizations and they seemed to narrow their program down to a image maker, copier with the equivilant 1:1 ratio of that of easy cd creator. Nero is good and alcohol seems like it's the one, but cdrwin i believe holds the key... Nero and alcohol are basically the only ones to use since they can do just about everything, damn windows xp made that a standard and now there's only a couple companies who will make decent faultless software... they just try to hard to make it pretty and do everything they can, and implement all the latest 2 dollar software into their product to make it $50 and sell it on the shelf at office depot. someone out there (someone who's got the smarts) needs to rewrite a program to do that. i say if each person works together... he makes a cd ripper, she makes a cd protection detector, i make an adapter for the psx! (that will read the psx cd using the psx cdrom, that's an idea i tell you what.) and putting it on the harddrive that way. use the native hardware... i must figure this out, it just seems like i'm hunting in the jungle and everyone who got eaten is dead and cannot tell me where i am.

Wow that's a long message. Most PSX games are not mod protected, only a handful of US-NTSC games. Check those lists I posted, there's only 10 or 12 games. I've found the best program for burning PSX games is Alcohol 120%. It supports just about any file format you can think of and is very easy to use. I think most newer CD burners support reading sub channel data. Alcohol has that feature on automatically when the data type is set to Playstation. The only program that works with modprotected games currently is CDRWIN. The U.S. LOM isn't modprotected. You use a tool called PPFomatic to patch games that are mod protected, then your burn the patched image with CDRWIN. Almost all PSX games you download will work with a straight burn. Out of 60 or so PSX backups I have, I patched 5 or 6.

63. Q. I read that you suggested using Alcohol 120% to backup PSX games or PS2 CD-ROM based games. I don't have Alcohol 120%, I use Nero or CloneCD. How do I use those programs to back up PSX games or CD-ROM based PS2 games?
A. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/236278
Note: If you get the foreign image settings in Nero, be sure to select Mode 2.

46. Q. How do I burn PSX mod protected games?
A. First you'd need know if the game is mod protected: http://www.go.to/psxcplist http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_protected_games.shtml
Then you'd need to download the patch: http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_patches.shtml
Then you patch it with PPFomatic: http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_ppf.shtml#PPF-O-Matic
Then you burn it to CD-R with CDRWIN: http://goldenhawk.com/
PPF and CDRWIN tutorial: http://www.go.to/psxcplist
In some rare cases you may download a mod protected game that's not in .bin format. For those you'd need to burn the game to disc using the Alcohol %120 guide for PSX games posted earlier. Then you'd use CDRWIN to extract a .bin file to your HD. From there continue as normal. Note: This process can also be used to patch PSX PAL games to NTSC and vice versa with PPFomatic.
