audio but no video playing storebought movie DVD's in Nero Showtime 2

Newly-installed Showtime 2 playing files such as *.wmv and *.asf just fine.

But DVD's -- storebought, not home-burned -- play only the audio. Video is black.

The only way I can trick the video into showing is to set Showtime preferences to prompt me re: DVD Auto-Resume. For so long as the "DVD Auto-Resume" dialog is displayed, the video will show in the background. As soon as I select the dialog's "OK" button, the movie resumes and the video disappears.

These DVD's play just fine in the Windows Media Player that came with the OS: Windows XP SP1.
