Problems with wireless gameplay on PSP

Hi just a quick question regarding wireless gameplay with another PSP buddy.

both me and my mate have got Ridge Racer, we tried to connect to each other so can play doubles, but always comes with the message connection failed.... We are switching the wireless button on, and doing everything correct but nothing happens... mine is Jap psp, my mates is a UK psp. Also my Ridgde Racer i play from my mem card and is Jap version, whereas my mate plays it from UMD, would that make a difference?
Also, just to see if it's not the game from the PSP main menu options we even selected the GAME SHARING option to see if i could pick up his PSP and vice versa, but still no response... does there have to be specific settings applied to connect with another PSP? or is it because my PSP is Jap and my mates is UK??

Your games have to be from the same area. Jpn version of RR doesn't work in wlan with us version of RR. Codes are often changed for localization. Is that even a word? Well I guess you get my point.
