Dual Layer Disc (Nero won't do it)

Hi, I have a movie with two parts (disc 1 and disc 2) Even though the files themselves differ from disc 1 to disc 2, their actual file names are the same (Video_TS, VTS_01_1, etc.) When I try to put both discs together to burn them on to a dual-layer dvd, nero won't let me, saying that I already have files with those names.
Any help?
Thanks.

the 'failed dvd-compliance' error you're getting is due to you trying to put the two sets of files together incorrectly. look in the guides section at top of page on how to merge the two sets of files properly..
ps i've requested the other thread be closed as it's the same aas this one..

Actually, I don't get a dvd-compliance error on this one, i just can't add both sets of files to the same dvd (as they all have the same)
Thanks for the help on the other problem though!

@ nuks, I personally use the prog. DVD2One. It has a great joining feature. I have combine 2-4 dvds to one and played flawlessly. I'm not for sure if the trial incorporates that feature but the purchased one does. I have also used Shrink. Onen the 1st disk, analize, then re-author my dragging the first movie into the re-author side save that to hd, then open the second disk, analize, re-author then save to HD...after that browse the hd to pull both to the reauthor side and then analize, transcode, and burn. I might take the long approach but it works for me. I still prefer dvd20ne, oh! I also have AnyDVD running in the background. There is aguide at doom9 that shows how the joining feature works on DVD2One. Hope this helps.

@Nuks - cool re the compliance thing. You could open another thread about that or add to this one, but as i say, non-compliance is usually down to not using Shrink correctly..

Alright thanks guys. I don't think DVD2One has the joining feature. And I haven't used DVD Shrink (I assume that's what you're talking about) so I'll give that a try.
Two more question in regards to the guides you have. First, the dvd-authoring guide. It says to open Nero in the classic mode (not express). How do I do that? All I can find is the express mode.
Also, is there a guide for dual layer discs, where there are multiple files with the same name? (Am I able to change the names somehow?)
Much thanks for the quick replies. and you can delete the other topic, I'll post all the questions in this one.
Thanks again.

re DVD2One - that's exactly what it's designed for, joining two sets of files.....

Alright, I'll try that.
Any ideas for the non-compliance issue?
I didn't author the dvd, it's a collection of bootlegged concerts, so I'm not sure how to go about putting it on dvd.
Thanks

Right right right. Sorry! I went to the dvd authoring guide (I'm assuming that's the one you were referring to) but I can't figure out how to get into Nero in classic mode. All I can get into is Nero startsmart, then Nero express.

@creaky, thanx my friend. I use it quite frequently so I figured I would know.
@nuks, no problem, but I would encourage you to download progs. just to see how you like them. Shrink is a favorite because it's free and works...I just prefer DVD2One when combining dvds (I did this with the LOTR ext edition and used clonedvd2 to compress it to a single layer Taiyo Yuden and it really looks great on my 55 inch 16X9. I try to learn all I can about compression and what I can get away with and what I cannot. Quality is important.

I agree, I wish all progs. had full features when you use the trial version so that you can see if you really like it. Have a good one.

Yeah, I may have to buy it.
So how do you get into the Nero in "classic" mode (as opposed to Nero express)?
Thanks.

If you are talking about the Nero Burning Rom, it is listed in the actual Nero Start Up menu. I ususally open Smart Start and then in the applications I open Nero Burning Rom. You can specify single layer, dual layer, or customize. I typically set my customize on single layer at 4300 or 4350. Keeps me safe. I have burned DL with Nero and it specifies each layer as it burns.

Is there called an application called Nero burning rom though? The closest I can find is Nero Express (and the guide specifically states NOT to use that)...

Yes, when you open the Smart Start, in the applications listing there you will see Nero Burning Rom (classic). You can go to your startup list and go to ahead or Nero files and there you can open the Nero Burning Rom as it is. Click start, all programs, Nero, Nero OEM, then click Nero Burning Rom. That's it. Hope this helps.

I have used Express and haven't had issues. Just make sure that in shrink that the botton in the backup page is checked where it ask if you will be burning with Nero...then in the speed section make sure you burn at 4x or slower...or use 4x speed media. When I use shrink I make it just create a folder with the combined dvds (After I have analyze both and transcoded both as one movie. Then I open Express and follow the screens. Express should do what you need, but like creaky said...follows the steps with shrink properly and you shouldn't have any problems.

Much thanks!

Alright, I figured out the 5 show DVD.
Last question. I have a mpg file, and when I try to convert it to dvd, the audio and video don't sync up.
Any help? (I have tried re-encoding it a few times, but with similar results)
Thanks.

Sorry nuks for the late reply...I'm not for sure about mpg's. I have never noticed a lip sync problem, although some of the new Receivers have the capability of adjusting and correcting some lip sync issues with Dvds. Not for sure about the problem you are facing with the mpg...maybe someone else can assist you here at AD. I'll check back later to see, yet I'll do some research and find out something. Talk at you later.
