Hi, I've recently foolishly upgraded to iTunes 5 and forgot to keep the installer for 4.9.

Since 5 is absolutely appalling , i need to go back to 4, but can't find anywhere to download the old version again.

Can anybody enlighten me as to where i can find the old version?

Precisely.

While I'm at it, I might as well list my other problem:

I have just had a Logitech keyboard delivered which is great, but i have a Microsoft Mouse, which I want to keep.

Logitech's drivers won't install if you ask them to cover the mouse as well, and Microsoft's mouse driver uninstalls the Logitech keyboard driver when installed.

Is there any way of reaching a compromise barring just not being allowed to use my mouse?

I have read in other forums how iTunes 5 has screwed up many a burning software. It overwrites some .dll file that it is not supposed to.

I can't test it. I don't have iTunes and don't want it. I would download my music using some other comapany's software.

lose iTunes man, its a sorry excuse for a media player. Get winamp 5 with the dynamic library plugin...1000 times better than itunes.

For someone who has taken such a similar strategy for their computer to me, I'll try that ;-)

To be honest, I find WinAmp just as annoying as when i stopped trying it a few years back, because the window is cluttered with thousands of features that say 'upgrade this' 'get the full version of that' which really peeves me off.

iTunes never did any of that, and before they trashed it with version 5, was a fantastic media player.

I have not installed iTunes, but one post that I saw, some time ago, it had affected Nero. But, I don't know if it affects everyone's computer.

not sure what you're talking about, winamp is, and always has been, free. there is a "pro" version you can buy which lets you burn CDs and all that stuff, but the free version won't bug you to upgrade or anything. but as long as you have something you like then kudos

I have itunes 5 installed and haven't had any problems with Nero, shrink or decryptor. The only progran I had a problem with since I installed 5 was DVD43, which is kinda screwy anyway. I removed DVD43 and haven't had a problem since.

to djscoop: trouble is I don't. I have actually now managed to reinstall iTunes 4 but there really isn't a media player out there that satisfies me. Oh well, never mind, at least i got 4 back.

Well ideally i'd like:

A simple, friendly, GUI (the only great version of that I've seen is itunes)

A customisable GUI (The only good version of that ive seen is WinAmp)

A well-sortable and easily add-to-able library (Again iTunes would have to get that one)

And the program must also contain an equalizer in the free version (Creative Mediasource doesnt, neither does WinAmp, or Windows Media Player, only iTunes has that feature)

And of course a cheap Music Store (where itunes fails)

well my friend, I beleive you are sorely mistaken with winamp. I understand you had a bad experience with it, but let me clarify a few things. First, winamp is free, and will not bug you to upgrade. Second, winamp DOES have an equalizer (and always has...what version of winamp did you try? If you tried version 3, then I understand why you didn't like winamp. 2 was the classic vesion, 3 sucked, and 5 is the new version which is great.) And download the dynamic library plugin, and you have your easy-to-use and easy-to-add to music library.

So basically what I'm saying is to download yourself the latest version of winamp 5, get the dynamic library plugin (from winamp.com) and check winamp out. I beleive you will be pleasantly suprised. You will be deleting Itunes off of your computer faster than you can say "apple sucks." lol :)

I tried WinAmp 5, which had adverts for upgrading in the equalizer, and the aforementioned equalizer didn't even function properly. The sliders kept moving themselves back!!!
