I have some home videos that I captured, they are about 4 hrs long. When I open nerovision express 3 and make my menu it says that the size cant be reduced automatically. I go to more at the bottom, then default video options and, the video dvd tab, then I change the quality settings from auto to super long play. This takes the file down to about 3.5GB but when I try to burn it I get an error message saying "unable to create disk structure" and on the log file it says Last address to be written: -1 ( 0:00.-1, 0MB). I have 2 different files that this has happened with, Im useing Sony and Verbatim media. Does anyone have any clue what I can do to get these things burned? Here is the last log. you have no idea how much I would appreciate some help on this. Thanks

@gobills - hi again, your username is familiar.
Quote: Physical memory : 447MB (458096kB)
Free physical memory: 120MB (123536kB)
Memory in use : 73
- for info, close more programs prior to burns
Quote: Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB)
Last address to be written: -1 ( 0:00.-1, 0MB)
- that 2nd line definitely isn't good. try fully formatting disc prior to burning and see if that helps. (saying that i think you've done that already looking at the log again)
Quote: Recorder: SONY DVD RW DRU-720A, Media type: DVD+RW

- your firmware's up to date, all settings are fine, and this media would appear to be very good qualit

I tried formatting the disk, just to be sure and still got the same result. Tried another disk - same result. I wanted to try to reduce the file size but shrink and Nero recode would not see the file so I ran it through VSO DivXtoDVD, then tried to open with recode. When it got about 90% of the way through it said Nero Recode 2 encontered an error and cannot continue. Failed to open file VTS_01_9.VOB. I have burned alot of files this same way but these 2 Im having trouble with are a little bigger than the ones I have done. Is there any other way I can shrink them. That is the only thing that is different from the one I just burned so Im hoping it has something to do with it.
Creaky, if you cant help me with this one I might as well throw it in the trash and just say it cant be burned, cause you are like duct tape, if you cant fix it with duct tape......its broke....get a new one....haha

need more info re the size of files. Also, you saying the files you're trying to burn, haven't quite been (successfully) converted to dvd-video format, using recorder OR the vso softwsre yet ??

When I capture, it saves it as a .MPG file. For whatever reason shrink and recode wont open that so I was trying to convert it to something they would open. I really dont know what Im doing, just guessing. But one of the files is 6.77GB and the other one is 6.87.GB. Both are around 4 hrs.

I tried to cut the file in half, and burn it..that worked. so I ripped it, added the rest of the file to it and burned that...it worked but the quality was really bad. It did work tho, so the size has to be the problem, any ideas?

ok, I got a new one. I had cut the file in half and it burned so I started with the whole thing and just started cutting out 20 minutes at the time and tried to burn until I got a disk burned. I got it down to about 2:50 minutes and it burned but it still hasLast address to be written: -1 ( 0:00.-1, 0MB). Here is the log, if anybody has a clue whats up here I would really appreciate some advice.

try using DVD Shrink on the directory containing these files now that you've converted the files to dvd-video format

The link below is to an easy to use conversion prog, which will create a dvd folder that you can bring into shrink (if the results are too large for a standard disc).
The default burning prog mentioned in the guide can be trial downloaded (do a google search).
http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/dvd-r_tools/vso_divxtodvd...
If it converts the mpeg files and Shrink can use the files it eliminates one or two steps which may be causing the grief.

I had already tried DivXtoDVD, I didnt know thats was what you were talking about but I appreciate the help anyway. I finally just cut it down to about 3 hrs each and burned them that way but even when I have a shorter video and it burns fine with no problems whatsoever, I still get the Last address to be written: -1 (0:00.-1, 0MB). I dont know what the deal with that is but I have used a lot of different media. thanks for all the advise.

hi there gobills, i noticed you said that the captured video has the extension .mpg, do you know if this is VCD or SVCD?, if the captured video is mpg1 (vcd) then you should be able to author the file to an dvd (vob) , an easy app to do this would be tmpge dvd author. Ive has success doing this, and shrink should be able to read the authored files.

thats something I have never heard of, where can I find it? I really dont know how to find the info you were asking for but I can tell you that this video was captured from a video camera with ulead and it has an MPG extension, it says its a MPEG file.
I know this is off the subject but I would like to be able to capture to Nero, I have a ads tech DVD Xpress capture device and it works fine with ulead but Nero doesnt see it. If I open capture in Nero it says no capture device found, any ideas there?
