How do I take of the UP GRADE form the PSP?

I recently bought two PSPs (at the some time and store)about 3 months ago, on one of the PSPs i could play roms from game boy color, but on the other one i can't. My little brother was messing around with it and i think he did an up date. In fact my other brother told me he did. How do i take of the up grade he so that i can play roms on it?

YOU CAN NOT DOWNGRADE, YOU CAN NOT RUN HOMEBREW, What is Homebrew?!?!
