Your dvdrw drive must be capable of bitsetting/booktyping. What make and model drive do you have?

Your drive is capable of bitsetting but must be flashed with some hacked f/w. You will need this flasher tool http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/PIONEER/DVR-109/DVRupdate_v0.9.zip and this firmware http://flashman.rpc1.org/Firmware/PIONEER/DVR-109/Buffalo/Buffalo...

I don't have a pioneer but if you have problems I know somebody that does and has flashed his dvr-109 with this f/w. Note: flashing with hacked f/w can void your warrenty and you do so at your own risk.

hi,

it was actually teflonmyk that brought me to cross-flashing my pioneer dvr-109 to the buffalo firmware...

check this thread from some more info:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210801

and here to crossflash the dvr-109 to the A09XL first, THEN flash with the buffalo firmware~ :)

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/202517

and finally, here is a quote directly from teflonmyk, who is MUCH more knowledgeable than i am regarding the pioneer dvr-109, i told scubapete how to do it before, in a lengthy post, but, i can't seem to find it anymore~ :) LOL
Quote:
Converting 109 to A09 removes riplock. There is Buffalo hacked firmware that allows you to booktype, but, as a result, you lose the higher rip speed. I only said I flashed back because I lost the benefit of riplock being removed by choosing to use the booktyping firmware. The only difference between the A09 and 109 is Quietdrive/riplock removed, that's why I refer to it as going back to 109...

To remove all confusion, should one decide to use the Buffalo firmware on an A09 to enable booktyping, his/her drive would no longer be recognized by the Quietdrive utility, therefore, losing higher rip speeds. I guess I should have just said that I flashed to Buffalo... The "names" of the firmware identify the drive and determine what utilities can be used, so, yeah, it is strictly a firmware issue.

BTW, the drive still will not show up listed as supported by the various booktyping utilities, but if you set them to automatically booktype +R to -ROM, the drive will booktype...

Why Pioneer won't just enable this feature for SL, I don't know??? Maybe it's because they are one of the original founders of the -R camp. These drives (109, 110) DO have booktyping enabled for DL +R media out of the box. BTW, Buffalo is a rebranded Pioneer sold in Japan. There is also ASUS and Piodata, I think...
good luck to you...hope that helps a little bit mort81~ :)

hehehe..found it~!!

this is a quote from ME to scubapete:
Quote:
@scubapete

i have the pioneer 109 as well, and if you are willing to try a different firmware, i have successfully FLASHED mine with the buffalo firmware (v 8.57 now)that now allows bitsetting~ :)

you are correct in stating pioneer line drives do NOT have the booktype capability, but, that can be resolved; at least with the pioneer dvr-109, because i have successfully done it myself :)

just thought i'd let you know if you are willing to cross-flash and go through a few steps to enable booktyping~ i wouldn't have believed it either, until i did it myself...

here is the thread where teflonmyk showed me...i don't know if he did it to his also, but, i had initially flashed my dvr-109 to the A09 firmware...THEN proceeded with cross-flashing to the buffalo firmware (link to the firmware is in this thread) good luck if you are willing to try it~ i for one am VERY happy with the results...i removed the riplock earlier too with the initial flash to the A09 firmware, don't think it has been retained, but i would choose the booktype capability anyday personally over the riplock feature :)

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210078

good luck

that is a much better source~ hehehe, i KNEW i had said it somewhere before...getting old...bday last week, no longer a youngin', right up there in the 30s w/ some of you other members here now, yes, i was 30 last year...but, now it's even more 30ish~ LOL

Getting in on this late.... I guess all that I can add is that you don't have to flash to A09 first. You can flash "straight" to Buffalo... And, like kivory666, I opted for booktyping over riplock removed...

The Toshiba favors -R discs... Are you using quality media?

As to someone's earlier post about the Toshiba SD/3860 not being able to play DVD+R. I did burn DVD+R discs, and they successfully played with no problems.

There is a 99% chance that you will be able to... Depends on your brand/model. Besides, -ROM, -R is the next most compatible...

If you are refering to booktyping to dvd-rom, this can only be done to dvd+r/rw media. Setting your dvdrw to booktype +r media to dvd-rom will not affect dvd-r/rw burns in any way.

Here's a good read. http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/150 You will have to flash your dvdrw with the buffalo f/w to make it capable of bitsetting.
