My hd was a fat32 and some how got flipped to fat is it possible to fix this w/o losing info and how?

I've never seen that happen (possibly the other way round but not this way).

If you want to change the partition type (note that FAT32 vs FAT is not a size, its a way of storing the information) you can try either:

Partition Magic

or

Acronis DiskDirector

Both should be able to do the job, as long as you read the manual carefully.
