I read in a previous thread that you flash your drive to booktype/bitset to DVD-ROM. I didn't have to flash the dive itself to do this....... I used DVDInfoPro to set my DVD+Rs/DVD+RW to be DVD-ROMs. In media analysis of the recordings of my DVDs it shows that it is a DVD+R booktyped as a DVD-ROM. This was so easy to do I didn't have to do anything like: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/234302, what Mort, Kivory, or Teflon had to do to make their Pioneer drive booktyped to DVD-ROM. Am I doing something wrong or was it just that simple to set for my drive?

You did nothing wrong. Your drive supports booktyping out of the box and Pioneers don't (not on SL +R media anyway). We had to flash "hacked" Buffalo firmware to enable booktyping on single layer +R media since Pioneer drives only support booktyping on Dual Layer +R media. After flashing, then we can enable the settings as you have done. Don't ask me why they don't support both!!!!

Hi IHoe,

You just went about it a different way. I don't have a pioneer (my drives are in my sig). I just choose to use the official booktype utilities provided by my drives manufactures to set the booktype for dvd+r/rw media to dvd-rom. I've read of generic programs being used to set booktype not always being as reliable and compatable as the official booktype utilities but if it works for you carry on.

Not all but most.

As of mid-April 2004, all of the latest LiteOn half-height drives and firmwares support bitsetting! Unfortunately, none of LiteOn's slimline drives (internal laptop drives) currently support bitsetting.

Here are the firmwares where certain LiteOn drives first started to officially support bitsetting. Any of these firmwares and any firmwares released after them will support bitsetting...

Code:
LITE-ON DVD+RW LDW-401S ES0K 2004/02/13 15:52
LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-411S FS0G 2003/12/17 20:15
LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-811S HS0J 2003/12/16 14:55
LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-451S GSB7 2004/01/15 10:53
LITE-ON DVDRW LDW-851S GS0A 2003/12/15 14:58
LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-812S US0J 2004/04/14 11:17

All firmwares for all non-slimline drives released
after the SOHW-812S support bitsetting.

redice,

You might want to double check your f/w. I can't find any FS07 f/w for a 1673S. The most current is JS0C. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2026

Your drive is capable of bitsetting. Here's a link to the lite-on booktype utility. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=83441 There is also a link to a usage guide on the page.

I was afraid to update my firmware, too, redice. But it's always good to have the newest version for your drive. Firmware brings your drive up to date with changes and more acceptance on different disks that are out there! Don't be afraid of updating your firmware. I did mine and it's fine! Still, the great burner that burns everything I give it, and more!

redice,

Something doesn't make sense. There isn't any official lite-on FS05 f/w for a litey SOHW-1673S. Did that drive come in a dell or gateway pc by chance? It might be their f/w.

There is no FSO5 in that link. Look back through your posts and you'll see you 1st said it was FS07 then FS05. There is no f/w starting with an F for your drive. You'll see why I was concerned. I would flash with current updated f/w as yours is pretty old.

Flashing your drive with incorrect f/w can ruin it. It is critical you flash your drive with f/w designed for it. Can't have typo's when f/w is involved.
