I bought Nero6 Ultra and I used dvd43 to copy a dvd to dvd. That was about 2 weeks ago. I just tried to copy another dvd but the copy failed . It said something about an error on a sector of the DVD being copied. I'm wondering if this is just a problem with the DVD being copied or a problem with DVD43.I also tried DVDdecrypter and DVDFAB decrypter and both got errors when I tried to decrypt the dvd. Is there another program like DVD43 that's free (I know about anydvd, which I tried with DVDclone2 which worked great). Maybe I should break down and just buy DVDCLONE2 with ANYDVD (comes bundled). I was just hoping that I could make NEro work since it worked once.

pls post LAST section of your Nero log, it's in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log, but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar

If you are running another ripping software, it may be conflicting with the Nero program(nero continually comunicates with the burner). I have had this problem in the past.
You can try AnyDVD, as it works well with Clone Dvd and Nero, But I think you need resolve a conflict first....Hope this helps....Clowdy

I am posting my Nero log as CREAKY asked, but I don't if this is just the last section or not. Anyway here it is. As I said I think I was using DVD43 with Nero6, but is possilbe that I was using AnyDVD trial version when I did the dvd to dvd copy successfully a couple of weeks ago. If you can see anything please let me know.
Thanks
Matt

The Nero text can contain several log files. Post your complete last log file. They're pretty lenghty! It will begin with:
====Nero API, History File =========
Copy and paste everything below that line.

@msherm - binkie7's got the answer there re the section dividers within the log. from the PM you sent me i've added the memory paragraph here. We'll still need the missing bit from the section divider to the memory paragraph, but there's a fair bit to go on here 'til then...
Quote: Physical memory : 503MB (515328kB)
Free physical memory: 141MB (145180kB)
Memory in use : 71
- sufficient total memory but insufficient free memory. you need to close down more programs prior to burning
Quote: Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB)
Last address to be written: -1 ( 0:00.-1, 0MB)
- that 2nd line isn't good. maybe the firmware is out of date or the discs are newer than your firmware knows what to do with
Quote: Recorder: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108
- don't know how up to date your firmware is until we see your full logfile, but latest (1.20) is here - http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/download.jsp?dir=/files/support/dvrup...
Quote: Recorder: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: RITEKF - 1
Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193
- hmmm, your current firmware seems to be recognising the disc, however i've done a little searching as i'm new to Ritek. Thes ones i found seem to be Ridisc Xtreme (16x) and a snippet i found "Ridisc Xtreme is the latest result of the relationship between Ridisc and Ritek Taiwan". Anyway,
i suspect your firmware is out of date to fully support the discs, even though you're using them at a sensible 4x burn speed
Quote: Error reserving fragment (0)
- don't think i've seen that in a Nero logfile before, imagine it's just a symptom of the other problems.
Quote: Writing file to disc failed
Burn process failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s)
- splat!

- remove Nero's InCD ('packet writing' software) by uninstalling Nero, uninstalling compleftely via Nero Clean Tools - ' http://www.nero.com/en/Clean_Tools.html ', then reinstall Nero, WITHOUT installing InCD
Also, just had a thought, what's the size of the directory containing the files you're trying to burn ?...

I appreciate you responding so quickly. I'm sending the entire log now. I was using memorex discs before, but I was having trouble getting them to play in my DVD player. When I read up on it I then bought these new discs since they are suppose to be higher quality. Anyway here's the full log.

no worries, i'll just comment on the bits that were missing before and hopefully we'll crack this one for you..
Quote: 1A23-**********************
- your serial number sneaked in there. pls EDIT IT OUT before someone steals it
Quote: Nero API version: 6.6.0.8
- that's not too bad, latest is 6.6.0.16, up to you if you want to update to latest (6.6.0.16) as Nero 7's out in a few weeks so i guess this is the last 6.x release we'll see
Quote: Recorder: <PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-108> Version: 1.00
- a-ha, firmware's too old. Latest (1.20) is here - http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/download.jsp?dir=/files/support/dvrup...
Hang on, Quote: Direct burning: true
- are doing some kind of copy on the fly ?. i don't use Recode myself but i get the gist of how it works. On the fly is not something i would recommend, i do all my copying to hard drive then burn from there..
ps. still need to know the size of the directory in case it's too large for the disc you're trying to burn to....

@msherm - sorry, wasn't clear enough on my last reply. how i do all my recopying is by copying (via windows explorer) the video_ts folder to hard disc, then burn to blank disc via Nero Burning Rom (using compilation type of 'dvd-video')..
i see from your PM the file size of the video_ts directory reported by Recode's analysis is 4.459 mb.
i use DVD Shrink, then Nero Burning Rom, as opposed to your using Recode.
The target size i stick to is 4300MB, which is sufficiently far away from the outer edge of discs, yours is 4459MB, too close to the edge. There's a setting in Recode to change this setting. However that setting will only help you when you use Recode to shrink movies. What i recommend you do here is to manually copy the video_ts folder to hard drive using windows explorer, then use Recode to shrink that folder to 4300MB. Then you can burn to disc using Burning Rom.
but once you have discs that are around 4300MB in size, you can continue doing the on the fly method you were trying to do originally, provided you're going to hard disc first..

Man, you are not going to believe this, I didn't. I said to myself the thing I didn't try was to use one of original brand DVd discs which were Memorex R/w disc. I didn't believe it myself. I used one of these discs and It burned the DVD without a hitch using Nero Recode. I bought those Ritek DVD -R disc because in the various discussions they were said to be higher quality than Memorex. The Ritek must not be compatible with my Panasonic DVD-RW DVR-108 drive. Maybe only certain type of discs are compatible with DVD drive, what do you think? Maybe I have to use RW discs, but I don't see why. Is it the brand of discs or the type? I tried to do an update on this drive using the link in one of the discussions. I downloaded the file and ran it but it failed and said that it couldn't find the target.

Try this link and pick the one for A08:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/article/0,,2076_4273_128163... I had the same problem. For some reason Nero identifies this Pioneer as an 108 when it's an A08.
Ritek should be fine w/ your drive. I've used it with this drive before - the firmware should take care of it. I have the same drive and burn with the different formats. You should have no prob's with them.
I usually use recode to copy copies. It's just as fast as a copy to copy.

Since I have a Sony I went to their driver update site and found the correct update for the Pioneer DVD drive. it's actually
PIFOPD-OO788204-US.EXE. I have Checkit and it shows it to be a 108 also, not A08. Anyway the driver installed and I'll test and if I can write to the Ritek -R discs now. Where can find which discs work best with my pioneer DVD-RW drive and which are best quality?

The type of discs they recommend should/might be listed on the website under something like product spec's. Ritek, Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are almost always recommended by the manufacturer. The latter two being the best imo.
