Seems like every question I have gets answered in these forums. So, I came up with another. Been reading up on Booktyping dvd+r media and am wondering if my drive is capable of it and how to find out. A few places here mentioned Omnidrive firmware so, I downloaded it only to find my drive is not on the list. I also tried finding out more using Nero Info tool. Anyways, my drive IS older, a Sony DRU500AX. I can't find any rebagged liteon info or if it already has the booktype ability. Not seeing it on the lists and the fact its 5 years old tells me it might not. I'd like find out how to extract my firmware files from the drive, just to try. The firmware I downloaded from sony must be scrambled. Say, if my drive ends up incapable of booktyping, whats a recommendation on a new out-of-the-box burner?
Thanks in advance.

Insaying,

Sorry to inform you that your sony DRU-500 is not capable of bitsetting. Sony didn't become capable untill they merged with lite-on starting with the sony DRU-700 drives.

I really like my benq and would buy another if I needed to. I like my litey too especially for ripping since it has SMART-X technology but it's a little more finicky about media it likes than my benq is.

If I was buying a new dvdrw it would be between a benq DW1640 a Lite-on SOHW-1693S, a sony DRU-800, and I read the new LG 16x drive is very good and capable of bitsetting. Plextor is the cadillac and probably the best but also costs about twice as much as the others.
