Haven't been on AD for a while.........I've got a concern, here it goes.

I was having some problems w/ my PC. It was the Operating System ( XP Professional ) I had an older version with No Service Packs on it, it was also a bootleg version and I coudn't get any Windows updates.
I had Nero on my PC before, it's an OEM Suite version. It came w/ a dvd writer that I bought around 2 years ago.

It worked fine before with no problems......

I re-installed XP, newer version w/ Service Pack 2.Then re-installed Nero OEM on my PC.

Now everytime I open Nero I get a message saying........

Nero Burning Rom has a compatibility issue w/ this version of Windows. For an update version that is compatible w/ this version of Windows, contact Ahead Software.

Should I get a newer version of Nero ?? Should I get version 6.6 ultra or another oem suite version, or what ?

I was still able to burn a CD though, w/ This version of Nero that I have, but I also don't want anymore issuse's w/ my PC and the OS.

Any suggestions ??????

Thanks for taking the time to read this thread also. AD members have been so helpful to me in the past.

If you're on a budget I think I'd take a shot at using burning freeware. BurnAtOnce is good for burning bin/cue files such as burning VCDs. DVD Decrypter can burn DVD .iso images. You can use Folder2Iso to make an iso image of any folder including subfolders to burn data DVDs. And in the software section here you should be able to find plenty of apps for video and audio conversion. When I first bought Nero I figured it was worth the $70 because I wanted to start burning stuff and it seemed like an "all in one" app. It was good for getting started but as time went on I started doing conversions for videos and whatever using 3rd party apps and just burning with Nero.
So if you take that route and can find freeware burning software that works on your system, you don't really need it.

I'd suggest spending a day testing freeware burners. If you can't find stuff that works then you've only "wasted" one day. But even if you don't get free burning software you'll probably learn some stuff along the way anyway. If you get fed up you can always download the Nero 6 Ultra and spend the money. :)
