if a psp is a 1000k does it mean that it has a firmware 1.5 or lower on it or have i got it all wrong??

Nah,

I have a 1000k aswell. What it means is it is an early Jap model (most likley) and as such will in all likleyhood have the superior Sharp screen, unlike the American and European psp's with their samsung screens.

My 1000 PSP is a 1.51, so there is not any guarantee that your looking at a 1.5 but it is a possibility...
