I have a TDK 440n dvd burner. I just purchased a spindle of Memorex 16x discs that I can't burn to. After reading some of the posts on the site, I am realizing the Memorex discs are probably of poor quality. I would like, however, to post the log just to make sure it isn't a setting problem. I have the most up-to-date firmware for my burner. Would it be beneficial to upgrade my burner to a more current and faster drive? Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give.

The Nero log starts w/ this:

*** Nero-Burning Rom, History File ***
Post everything below that and remember to edit out the serial #'s they begin w/ 1A. (don't want someone to use it)
One thing does stick out in the part posted and you hit the nail on the head Memorex!!!
Unfortunately your Memerox are made by possibly THE worst manufacturer.

Post the rest of your log to see if they is something else going on also. I'd switch the media to Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DataLifePlus before buying a new burner though.

You know, the thing that really frosts me, is that I've never had any probs burning until I purchased the "new" 16x media. About 3/4 of my DVD library is on Memorex media. It would be nice if they had consistency in their manufacturing. I mean, if I can't trust the discs to burn right every time, then buying their products is a waste of time and $. Ughh.

I am realizing the Memorex discs are probably of poor quality.
- they use widely differing quality in disc manufacturer's and it's almost like a lottery as to which discs you get as one day you could pick up a tub of discs that had a decent manufacturer's discs, and another day you might pick up an identical tub and it'd have CMC discs for instance..
Quote:
Would it be beneficial to upgrade my burner to a more current and faster drive?
- if you have money to do that, it's always a good option, as your drive i believe can only do the following -
4.0x for DVD-R
2.0x for DVD-RW
4.0x for DVD+R
2.4x for DVD+RW
Most people recommend 4x max for movie burning though 4x discs are gonna become harder to find, but with newer burners you could you use higher-speed rated discs, ie 8x for instance, but burn them at 4x. Either way, you need to try better discs as i see below you're using the atrocious utter rubbish CMC discs

Nero version: 6.3.0.2

- you're burning to very outer edge of discs. if you use DVD Shrink, set target size in Shrink's preferences to 4300MB, thus avoiding outer edge of discs and not sacrificing much space.

- OMG you may well find that a lot of those will be unwatchable/uncopyable in a short time, you're not saving money buy buying Memorex.

Thanks, Creaky. I'll do what you suggested. You mentioned the 1x burn rate. I tried that just to see if it was the burn rate. Normally, I don't do that. When you say that the Mem discs in my library may be unwatchable/uncopyable, is that because they degrade faster? Man, I hope not...

Yep - that's exactly what happens. They can be a pain in the a** when trying to recopy. Tons of errors.
