I have been getting really slow BT downloads lately. I use azureus and i configured my router/firewall and all that stuff. I get an average of abotu 10 - 30 kb for most torrents I get. There are some torrents for which i get speeds of over 100 but this is rare. I know i should be getting faster speeds than this because it wasnt this slow before and i have a fast internet. Is this just me or has any one else noticed that bittorrent has been slow lately. Can any1 help me out?

my upload is at 15 right now which is about half of my max, but i dont think that is why because i've had files download at 300 or 400 before with the same exact settings i have now. I also limited my number of connections to 30 per torrent, if that helps. however, i tried increasing both my upload speed and my number of connections per torrent but that made no difference. i am still getting slow speeds of about 15 or 20.

just a few things to add:
i checked the jkwon thing and everything is like it should be. i even tried using different ports and that didnt seem to help
my smiley is almost always green so i think my ports are fine anyway
o ya, im using the safepeer plugin for Azureus so i dont know if that could be it

nah peerguardian sucks and ive tried with and without safepeer before, it made no difference, peerguardian blocked way too much and i coudlnt even go on most sites. but the file i was dling was at 20 for like the first 75% and then for some reason it jumped to 50-100 and stayed that way till the end. i guess it just didnt have any good connections, another file i was downloading did the same thing, it looks like usually i wont get a good speed until i connect to 1 or 2 ppl who can upload a lot

alex389 have you opened up your ports???????
Azureus isn't very useful for beginners, try a simpler client like Bittornado to get going

Quote: I use Azureus and i configured my router/firewall and all that stuff.
im not a beginner and ya i opened my ports, i said that in my first post. like i said b4, some torrents i download stay at 100+ kb all the time with all the same azureus/router/firewall settings as i have now, it just seems that most torrents arent going as fast as they could be. For example, the last 2 things i downloaded were going at a speed of about 20 kb until they were at least halfway done. it picked up after that to decent speeds of 50-150 kb even though i didnt change any settings. could this just be the torrents im getting or is it something on my end?

Yes me too.... bit torrent works at 70 - 100k...... for the first couple of hundred meg then drops to about 10 to 15k and says its going to (n)days till completion, just for a couple of gig.
I've rechecked all settings etc and still dont understand how it can start fast and then slow down...
Maybe it works for some and not others..... just like the bbs systems did :)
The rest is just base 16.............

Alex389...I am going through the same problem as you. This is recent...maybe two weeks to todays' date. Same problems...used to get blazing speeds (about 40K) with BitTornado and now I am stuck at between 10K and 12K if I'm lucky. Have you found out what gives...I have a bad feeling that it may be a virus of some kind. Could there be a fix somewhere? Please let me know what you have found out!! Thanks..

Mines died aswell, used to peak at 110k, now i`m lucky to get to 8K. This is the 3rd times this has happened. First time I used `tune up utilities` which optimised my settings and it sorted it out. Second time my ISP upgraded my connection and things were great. Now i`m stuffed. Green lights on Azerus, 50 seeds and a poxy 8k. Trouble is, by the time I get round to seeding, there`s no one left who wants it and bang goes my ratio. Anyone got any ideas.

I'm downloading a torrent using BitTornado, and for awhile (as in the first 100mb) I was getting over 500k/sec! But then it dropped down. Now I'm getting anywhere from 50-100k/sec. I'm uploading at 36k/sec... Could that be limiting me?

ya i tried on a different forum also because no one was answering this one for a while. nobody knows how to fix it except for the standard open ur ports advice. however, my ip filter was blocking 67 percent of the internet so i reinstalled safepeer and now its at 0 and im checking if this brings up my speed

macmac: The more you upload the quicker you will download, but the catch is to keep you uploads lower so they don`t throttle your dowmload. I found that running with a 17kb max upload enabled me to keep a reasonable download rate

what ive found is when im downloading off public torrent sites i usually dont get good download speeds and i think its because they throttle their upload speeds ( just my opinion )
and iff im downloading off private torrent sites i normally get top download speeds , because other users and myself want to have a good ratio .
so try registering to a private torrent and see iff your speeds increase .
ps. i use bitcomet latest version and it works for me .

I download from public and private and my speed still sucks. Having a row with my ISP at the moment, speed tests showing me only running at 512kb instead of 2mb. Tiscali - don't you just luv them!

ya im starting to think that too, because when i get a good speed, its usually 1 person uploading at around 100 and everyone else at 5. also, it might be safepeer thats making it slow down because its ip filter block 2/3 o the internet
