Finding WAV files

I have a freind who claims he can make a WAV out of just about any song I ask him. He is not on a paid service such as iTunes. I've tested him on several occasions and indeed he can.
Anyone have any idea how and where he finds these files on the net as he claims and how he is able to email them to me as a WAV file?
My purpose is not to build a song collection but to add sound to phoo CD I've made for my granddaughter.
Please, put me out of my misery

you're sure he's finding them as wav files, not compressed files such as mp3s? And how is he able to mail you a wav file? Because a full quality uncompressed wav of an average song of 4 to 5 minutes will be between 30 and 50 megs, which is way over email attachment capacity.
but to answer your question, soul seek is an excellent application for finding individual songs. for full albums, IRC is very good as well.

2. MP3 audio file
Bite rte: 64 kbps
Protected: no
Size: 28 MB

no I definately don't want anything emailed to me, I would like to avoid pissing off the feds and going to jail...
not really much to tell ya, other than the wav is really low bitrate, and the mp3 is well below cd-average bitrate as well, so I doubt they sound that good. Don't know what kind of music you're looking for, but give soul seek a try. google it and you can find it, its free.

Checked out soul seek as you suggested. I don't know enough about this file sharing to get involved and as you I want to do things within the law.
Know of a service that where say over a period of a year I might download 3 maybe 4 songs?

well as far as legal ones I know of there's itunes, rhapsody, and napster. If you want one where you pay by the song, then probably check out itunes

1) The WAV file in question (obviously) isn't a standard PCM-WAV file because it is very small and lossy. This WAV either is labled incorrectly or is some type of lossy-WAVE file. Lossy-WAVE files can contain any type of compressed audio data. To me it looks like a very compressed, low-quality Mp3 file.
2) Mp3 files can't contain any type of DRM (protection). If you have Mp3s that require a license to be played then it is either mis-labled and should be considerd dangerous since it probably requires you to connect to the net before being played! A lot of malicious MPEG (A/V) files are distributed in this manner, without video streams and with illegal headers, across (all) P2P networks.
