old dvd player choppy playback w/ .avi

I have an older DVD player and i used nero to create a VCD to play an avi. Its Under 700mb on a CD-R. It plays choppy and pixelated. It plays fine on my comp as a VCD. What can i do w/ nero to make it play better.
