Hi

I have alod of music files on my laptop but my hadrive is small, i need 2 shrink them to a really small amount of memory. But i dont want to ruin the quility of music. is there any music [rogramme which will ahrink the files and keep the music quiality the same. Any help from any1 would be usefull. (i would like the prog to be freeware if possible). Thanks alot.

I don't Think There is such programme. all i can suggest is that you make all your songs in .wma format as it is one of the smallest if not the smallest compression formats. what bitrate is your music encoded at? if you really need the space, encoding them all at 128kbps isn't bad sound at all. sorry that's all i can suggest.

If there MP3's then shrinking them will make them lose quality. I suggest re-ripping the albums to VBR using Exact Audio Copy. Use this guide to help you. = http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/mydeneaclame.cfm

Or if your not fussy about quality then do what Lethal_B said and rip them to WMA.

I wouldnt bother converting MP3 to WMA as this will lose quality as well. Just re rip your albums again to WMA. But if you really don't want to do this then there is an app called dBpoweramp which does this. Just google for it.

The question that wasn't asked: What type of files are on your hard drive endz?

Stay away from WMA if possible. WMA is horrible at low bitrates (and higher ones as far as I'm concerned). I recommend using aacPlus! Thats right aacPlus. For the first time in my tenure I'm recommending a codec optimized for low-bitrates.

To play aacPlus in windows media player (or any DS filter based media player) install this MPEG-4 codec.

Or

Install the latest Winamp. I don't recommend WinAMP because it doesn't recognize aacPlus files inside Mp4 containers (like everything else does). Because of that the files WinAmp creates are only compatible with winAMP. They are raw AAC files.

You can use dBpowerAMP to create WMA files too,
