I am using nero express to burn dvd's. Sometimes I can burn to dvdr, but most of the time it just gives me an error message and stops burning. For every copy, I waste about 5 to 8 blank dvdr's. Any one no how to stop this or any other programs that are better then nero.

welcome to AD big shrty,firstly to help you with your problem i will need to know a couple of things;
1. what are you trying to burn(what type of file)
2.what media are you using,normally this is the biggest problem,finding the right discs for your burner.
3.have you got the latest firmware for your burner?
4.could you also post one of your failed burn logs?
if you answer these questions between me and the rest of the AD community im sure we will sort you out:)

also what speed are you burning at? That could be a major factor as to why you are getting so many coasters.

hope no-one minds, i stumbled by and saw a logfile....not intentionally tring to barge in..

Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ?
- that question mark suggests the atapi drivers aren't loaded correctly, or the burner's external, ie USB enclosure or similar. which is it ?

- 512MB is sufficient, provided programs are closed down prior to any burning. i have 1GB now and always have 600MB free, but if i left loads of stuff running i would also run low on free memory. you gotta close down more programs prior to any burning

- you're burning too close to outer edge of discs. if you use DVD Shrink, set target size in Shrink's preferences to 4300MB, thus avoiding the outer edge and not sacrificing much space

@big_shrty - as i mentioned in your other thread, pls post that last logfile here and we can help you further. ps another way to test burns is to do 'simulation burns' which just go thru the motions with a blank disc ad don't write to the discs, but still provide a section of logfile.

ps make sure to edit any of your logfiles above and EDIT OUT your serial number before a moderator sees it or someone steals it..

- i guess you should format the rewritable before starting the burn, i very rarely use rewritables so not sure if that's actually necessary though

- logfile's looking pretty cool now (ie i think all necessary tweaking has been done), so all i can suggest is try some other media, BUT MAKE SURE to try simulation burns first so as not to waste any more discs... good luck and keep us posted...

Well I downloaded nere 6.6.0.15 and closed down as many running programs that I could and still couldn't make a copy. Then I tried it again and was able to. I also tried running a simulation burn and it said that I couldn't simulate it. I tried that with the maxell DVD-RW and then tried with cheapimation DVD-R. I'm not sure what is going on or what else to do. Do you now how to free any more memory or anything else I could do because I am stumped. Also if it helps. I got my external burner off of ebay and maybe it is crap. Here is my newest log.
