Hi Guys.
Great forum, I managed to find most of the answers I'm looking for, expect a few, so here goes:
1 . As a PSP is a major investment for me (I haven't got mine yet, but soon), I need to know if there is any real danger to trying to use fastloaders to play ripped games.
Does the term "Bricking" means it becomes completely useless? I'm not going to be tinkering with anything more than just what you guys suggest you use, and if I do manage to stuff up anything, can I "reload" it?
2. Then, I'm asking a friend to bring me a PSP from Bangkok ,where he is travelling at the moment (For like half the price) , and I live in South Africa...is there any Zoning like DVD's on the UMD discs? I think not but just checking.
3. Can I use PSP to watch any mpegs or AVI's that I might have on my PC?
4. I've got 512 Mem Stick Duo already, (For my Cybershot) , will that suffice for most games, or do you need to go up to 1GB?
Thanks guys, my PSP will arrive in a a week and then I'll be ready I hope....
Cheers

OK cool I've done some more reading and found the answers to question 3.
Thanks, and while I assume there is no zoning on UMD disc and question 4 is just an opinion, just one the "bricking" question remains.

1) If you brick your psp, then it's game over. But you can brick your psp only if you use a program that modifies psp's flash, like version changer (that's quite safe though, but there's always a risk) or So using fastloader or pspset.
2) That's region encoding. Games are not region encoded, but movies are. I think most of asia is r2, so movies from uk and europe should work on it, not sure though.
3) I'll answer this anyway. You need to convert videos with pspvideo 9 or similar if you want to view them on psp.
4) And by games you mean what? Illegal copies? 512mb is sufficient for saved games and homebrew. Iso's usually take whole lot of space, so 1gb card can hold 1-2 games, so I recommend just buying umd's. But if you decide to listen mp3's and watch videos along with using homebrew, then 512mb might be too small. I have 512mb and it's enough for 4-5 albums and there's plenty of space for saved games and wipeout extra content.
Hope these answer your questions. If not, then just ask again :p

Thanks a lot for your answers, very helpfull, but few things uncertain still.
Q1 :If I downgrade my psp, by following instructions, is there still a chance of bricking it? I mean it should be the same on all psp's right? There's no "random" factor anywhere is there?
And I know it's very though to answer but is it possible to give me some realistic odds? 1 out of 10 or 1 out of 100000 get bricked?
And then surely a UMD emulater doesn't actually change any flash does it? So I'm thining that should be safe.
Q2: Thanks.
Q3If UMD's are Region2 it's cool to play in South Africa, so I should have no problem there.
And to tie in with Q3....surely the region of your psp have no difference when viewing downloaded and then converted movies?
Q4 : I'll have to wait for expensive 1GB Mem sticks to drop in price then. I've seen most ISO's is just under 500MB, so I think I'll manage for now.
Thanks Again.

1) I haven't heard yet that anyone would have bricked his/hers psp while using this downgrade. There's is always a small chance, but it's like 1:10000 or even less. Just follow the instructions _step by step_ correctly.
And no, if you mean playing iso's from memorystick. It's 100% safe.
2) Np :>
3) Well only v2.0 firmware can play avc encoded movies, but most videos around the internet are plain mp4's so region doesn't matter in downloaded videos.
4) Yeah and the usable space of 1gb card is like 960mb to 980mb, I don't remember for sure. So you'll have to fight to get 2 games fitting on that on memorystick.

All right thanks again. Guess it's safe then. if not I'll send you the bill. ;-)
I've been sniffing around some sites with lots of homebrew but it's unlikely I'll try anything else but a luancher or two to play ISO's of my mem stick.
Sorry AVC Encoded Movies? U missed me there.
Thanks again.

You need only fastloader for games. Yeah, v2.0 supports mpeg4-avc encoded video files. Much better than regular mpeg4, almost umd video quality.
