I'm new here so forgive me if I'm a bit off my rocker when trying to make this understandable! :)
I bought a CD-R/RW just a little over a year ago and it has been working perfect. I wasn't keen on the "good" and "bad" types of CDs you can get, but I had been using Imation and TDK and they both worked well for me... About 3 months ago I bought pack of Maxwell and just tried to burn a disc and it burns and gives the "completed" message, but it says the CD is blank and when it's put into my stero it also says it's blank. Could this just be a problem with the Maxwell brand? I'm hopping for a little help before I spend more $$ on CDs that won't work. I uninstalled my driver and program and reinstalled and it still does the same thing.

Here's the log.. I think this is all.
The music I'm trying to burn was ripped from brother's CD.. it couldn't be something wrong in the ripping? That may sound stupid, but willing to try anything, LOL!

Quote: Nero Version: 5.5.9.14
- if you're only doing CD's, version 5 is fine, however the last update i remember ever using was 5.5.10.78 i think, so you are way out of date. see if you update to latest 5.5.10.x update

- omg!, 126MB is barely sufficient for XP. you're gonna have to try to free up more memory prior to burns, though that'll be hard with only 128MB to start with..

Thanks for your reply!
I installed the 140M, but don't know how to turn my DMA on. I went into the Device Manager and though I had did it, but the new log still say it's off. I downloaded a program to free up RAM and since I did that my PC is loading faster.
Also, do you know anywhere I can download a newer update for Nero? I was at there site and tried to get 5.5.10.56 but it wouldn't download and I searched other boards and none of the links would download...
I also changed the speed to 16x and tested and still nothing... Here's the newest log:

Quote: I installed the 140M, but don't know how to turn my DMA on
- try this way, but be very careful with regedit.... Quote: Run REGEDIT. Go to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
It has subkeys like 0000, 0001, 0002, etc. Normally 0001 is the primary IDE channel, 0002 the secondary, but other numbers can occur under certain circumstances. You have to go through these subkeys and check the DriverDesc value until you find the proper IDE channel.
Delete MasterIdDataChecksum or SlaveIdDataChecksum, depending on whether the device in question is attached as master or slave, but it can't actually hurt to delete both. Reboot. The drive DMA capabilities will be redetected.
Open Device Manager again and check whether the device is now actually using DMA mode. If so, congratulations, you've made it (at least until the next time Windows disables DMA).
