Hello everyone.

I did belong to this forum many years ago but became inactive due to lack of use , I guess, anyway joined again.

My question is what are the best specs for burning dvds & video editing.

I have no trouble ripping & burning dvds but my problems come when using video editing software like Pinnacle or Ulead stuff. Its either slow or just hangs. I know Pinnacle stuff is very fussy on what it runs on & what is also running at the same time. I started off with Studio 8 & have juts upgraded to Studio 9 which I find a bit more stable.

I have an older (now) 1.8ghz machine with 512gb ram & 120g HD.

I guess thats old hat now but was top spec when I bought it.

What would others reckon to be the optimum specs for video editing.

Dual processor, more RAM, more HD space.

cheers & any advice appreciated

I only know Roxio, Nero, and windows editing progs so this may not be your "perfect fix". I do know the jump from 512 to full GB ram was the best first step I ever took, that was my first machine, an old Home Shoppers Network deal my mom gave me. Don't think it helps encoding that much, helps run your programs and file search speed tremendously. I found that out before I put together the modest rig in my signature, then I found out that the higher processor realy smoothes out the graphics and cuts time on the editing. You say 1.8ghz, if thats AMD it could be close to my Pentium :> Enough rambling, I think memory first then more if yer not happy.
